What's the frickin' problem?

I'm a Quebecer before being a Canadian. That doesn't stop me from caring about Canada. I'm sure many First Nations people identify to their first nation before identifying with Canada. What's wrong with that?

The Liberals are too ''centralized'' for my taste but I agree with Iggy on this issue. The feeling of national identity is complex and for many people, many national identities overlap.

This is the reality of the world we live in but some people are still stuck in a black and white world.

Your thread title is misleading. Ignatieff doesn't support Quebec's primacy over Canada, he supports an individual's right to choose and affirm their own feeling of national identification.

One wonders why this would be so shocking to some people. It's as if they had a medieval live or die notion of allegiance to a King.

I for one, have no allegiance whatsoever to the Queen. I'm anti-monarchist to the core. I do recognize however that she is officially Canada's Head of State and I respect the choice of Canadians. The fact that I can claim this loud and clear without any form of problems shows how Canada tolerates a multiplicity of views from its citizens and that is to Canada's honour. It seems to me that this is what Iggy is on about and I really don't see why you'd have a problem with this.

I don't disagree with you at all, s_lone. The reason I posted this was to show Ignatieff for the person he is - someone more than willing to use such a touchy subject for his own political advantage - anytime, anywhere. Gilles apparently took him to task for this during the debate last night.

I'm not lone wolf... But I don't blame you for the mistake.

And that's the attitude everyone is sick of!

Maybe it is time that Quebec finally left, Canada would certainly be stronger without the separation question constantly looming.

Who said I wanted to separate?!!!

It seems to me that it's your vision of Canada that is problematic here. You are the one rejecting my own feeling of national identity. Would you say to First Nations that Canada would be better without them because most of the people of these nations identify to them first before identifying to Canada?
