Dean Skoreyko @bcbluecon Pointing out a sick domestic abuse joke from a Liberal candidate is an "attack" to iPolitics http://pllqt.it/XjaYBd
An insensitive post about domestic violence was deleted from a Saskatchewan Liberal candidate’s Facebook wall on Wednesday after the Conservative party’s campaign director tweeted about it.
Not long after the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup final Monday evening, Ray Fox — the Liberal candidate in Battlefords–Lloydminster, a riding held by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz — posted a meme showing a white woman with a black eye, her white husband, and their black child.
On top of the meme, Fox, a four-term North Battleford city councillor and — somewhat ironically — according to his Liberal Party bio the winner of 2010 Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Public Service for his involvement with the Battlefords Domestic Violence Treatment Option Court, wrote: “my sincere condolences to all the Tampa Bay Fans,,,,,,,,,,,I think I might know how your feeling…..”
It didn’t take long for the tone-deaf joke, which 15 of Fox’s Facebook friends had liked as of Wednesday morning, to be picked up by the Conservative party.
Conservative Party campaign chair Jenni Byrne tweeted Wednesday morning: “Domestic abuse is no laughing matter. Period.”
Jenni Byrne @Jenni_Byrne .@JustinTrudeau is only as ready as his candidates. This one has some explaining to do! #NotReady #cdnpoli #cpc #lpc
