As to the quality of "The Interview" as a film, professional critics who have seen it have given it mixed reviews. (Maybe that will change as people come to a defense of it, but before the cancellation, it is supposedly a pretty ho-hum film.)

A couple of the critics have made references to racist humor. Which isn't really a laughing matter. Racism does happen in movies even today. More importantly than it being a moral thing, it's just lame and not entertaining. It winds up making a lackluster product.

Is that the spin?

panem et circenses.

It's so boring.

In case you're wondering, it means creating unimportant controversies to feed a populace's shallow concerns. It makes people sound like they're saying something important, when they're really not.

Steve Carell's North Korea movie axed after 'The Interview' situation

Studio bosses behind an upcoming Steve Carell movie set in North Korea have decided to cancel the project in the wake of the fall out from Sony Pictures' controversial new movie, The Interview.
Last month, a group of activists calling themselves Guardians of Peace infiltrated the Sony database and leaked whole movies, celebrities' salaries, and stars' personal information on the Internet, threatening more hacks unless studio executives scrapped plans to release the Seth Rogen film, about two Americans who set out on a mission to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
They subsequently threatened "9/11 style attacks" on movie theatres that screen The Interview if the release went ahead as planned, prompting officials to scrap the film's New York premiere on Thursday.
Executives at New Regency and distributor Fox subsequently decided not to risk a similar fate, and announced on Wednesday that they would not be moving forward with production on their movie, Pyongyang, about Canadian author Guy Delisle's real-life experience of spending two months in North Korea's capital and his struggles of working in the totalitarian state.
Carell was cast as the lead in the film, with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski at the helm. Production had been slated to begin in March.
Verbinski has since released his own statement about the executives' decision, which reads: "I have been told in no uncertain words that based on the situation at Sony, Fox has now decided to not distribute the film. Without a distributor, New Regency was forced to shut the film down.
"My thoughts: I find it ironic that fear is eliminating the possibility to tell stories that depict our ability to overcome fear."
Also on Wednesday, Sony chiefs bowed to pressure from hackers and completely cancelled The Interview's Christmas Day release.
Carell took to Twitter to express his distress over the situation, and wrote, "Sad day for creative expression. #feareatsthesoul".

Because you're an idiot that's why. I am not supporting the despotic country of N. Korea but you're a moron so that is why YOU wouldn't be surprised to think that.

In another words...

You fail.

Dennis Rodman has threatened legal action against the makers of a video game if they do not remove his character from their new project focusing on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The former basketball player struck up a bizarre friendship with Kim when he set up sports camps in the country last year, but he does not want to be included in the game Glorious Leader!
In the game, players can take on the persona of Kim or Rodman and try to take on America.
According to TMZ.com, Rodman's lawyer has sent game designer Jeff Miller and his company Moneyhorse a letter demanding Rodman's removal from the game because it portrays him in a "negative light."

Man wants refund after buying $650 in tickets to 'The Interview'
Variety Staff

LOS ANGELES – Sony apparently isn't the only one who lost money on "The Interview" last week.
A man in Ohio tried to cash in on the buzz surrounding Seth Rogen and James Franco's new comedy when he purchased $650 in tickets or 50 passes at $13 each to the movie.
According to WCPO in Cincinnati, Jason Best learned that a local theatre in Clifton was among the 300 theatres to play the controversial film on Christmas Day and hoped to resell the tickets online at a higher price (i.e., he wanted to scalp them).
"I saw all the hype about 'The Interview' on the 23rd and thought, 'Hey, folks are selling these tickets in other cities and it seems like that's the thing to do right now so why not give it a shot so see how it goes,"' he said.
But the plan backfired once Sony announced it was streaming the film online for half the price on sites like YouTube, Hulu and Netflix.
Now the man is demanding a refund from the Esquire Theatre.
"I thought I'd get my money back because the theatre's website *very clearly* said the tickets were refundable," Best told WCPO in an email.
But a theatre manager told Best that the arthouse didn't have a website and that "The Interview" was listed as a special event.
It turns out Best had purchased the tickets from movietickets.com, which specifically warns on its website that theatre owners reserve the right to withhold refunds for special events.
Plus the manager said that scalping tickets was illegal.
The $40 million-budgeted "Interview," which expanded to iTunes on Sunday, recently changed from a wide to limited release after North Korean hackers threatened to harm theatergoers.
The R-rated comedy earned nearly $3 million at the U.S. box office this weekend.
