NDP Leader Jack Layton said he was disappointed after meeting with the prime minister about the NDP plan to deal with climate change, and has not ruled out introducing a no-confidence motion to topple the government.

At the very least it'll shut the Liberals up about the NDP budget if they balk. My guess is the game is afoot.

I imagine Layton is disappointed, he is probably stupid enough to think Harper would dance to his tune......like that other PM........what was his name? Oh yeah. Mr. Dithers.

What makes you think Jack wasn't aware the meeting was going to unfortunately add up to little more than a dog-and-pony with nothing substantial from the PMO?

brilliant

...Layton said he wants the government's Clean Air Act sent to a legislative committee, where he says it will be extensively revised by opposition parties.

"It should be permitted to have a thorough and complete rewriting," Layton said. "(It would face) comprehensive amendments, and really a fundamental change to the act."...

here you go, Colpy

Tories back down over NDP threat

The tune would be The Battle Cry Of Freedom by George F. Root and here's some lyrics to boot...

There Is Power In A Union

by Billy Bragg

There is power in a factory, power in the land
Power in the hand of the worker
But it all amounts to nothing if together we don't stand
There is power in a Union

Now the lessons of the past were all learned with workers blood
The mistakes of the bosses we must pay for
From the cities and the farmlands to trenches full of mud
War has always been the bosses way, sir

The Union forever,defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters from many far-off lands
There is power in a Union

Now I long for the morning that they realise
Brutality and unjust laws cannot defeat us
But who'll defend the workers who cannot organise
When the bosses send their lackeys out to cheat us?

Money speaks for money, the Devil for his own
Who comes to speak for the skin and the bone?
What a comfort for the widow,a light to the child
There is power in a Union

The Union forever,defending our rights
Down with the blackleg, all workers unite
With our brothers and our sisters together we will stand
There is power in a Union

(sigh) politics.

I don't think you will see the bill radically modified. This is a stalling tactic by the Conservatives, who don't want to face an election right now.

The NDP has not walked away with the whole enchilada, as they did with Paul Martin at budget time.

BTW, I've been a union man most of my working life.............currently with the Teamsters.

I also was once a NDP voter.......when David Lewis was the man and the NDP were sane...........

Layton got exactly what he was asking for. Think "Accountability Act" on steriods.

what's so nuts about that?

Seriously, that bill is exactly where it belongs now, in front of a paper shredder with 184 teeth.
