Kyoto was dead in the womb.
I can see why the Conservatives and the Republicans opted out.
Kyoto does not work it only make poor countries that have lots of credits because they really don’t have any industries get money from credits that highly industrialized countries or polluters are willing to pay.
I don’t like John Baird because I feel he is a sniveling idiot and because he is a Conservative But! His plan is a good one.
Why should any country pay money to another country so they can buy credits and put more greenhouse gases into the air?
That money should be paid to the specific government where the factory is located and if they decide to locate to another country because they don’t want to pay the fines then the products should have a high pollution tariffs put on it.
Are we serious about cutting down greenhouse gasses or do we just want to play games and shuffle our feet like Kyoto.
If we hit the polluters in their pocket book they will either do the necessary changes or they will close down or they will pass along their expenses to the consumer and eventually the prices will come down because the market always adjusts.
Kyoto was a first step and now it is time to go to the next step and the Conservative party will lead the way and now other countries will follow Canada’s example.
Who wins?
The government wins because they will get lots of money from the polluters initially until they put the controls in.
You and I win because we can get back our normal weather.
The world wins.
When this is solved then we all can worry about the everyday mundane things like nuclear fallout after the world is destroyed.
I don't know how much credit the conservatives deserve, exactly. I attribute the movement we are seeing on global warming issues to the fact that there is a minority government....and the fact that mr. harper is a very shrewd politician. I think the opposition parties have put an excellent amount of pressure on a party and prime minister that didn't seem to give two hoots about the environment before, and forced them into a new direction...and I think we are starting to see some solid ideas with hopefully as solid results come of it. Part of the problem may have been that there has really not been an alternative to Kyoto...that those who have been against kyoto haven't really stated an alternative...other than the made in insert country here approach. Maybe...just maybe this government, and our nation can present a better example...something to work on. I don't think Kyoto was a terrible idea...I think it is a good idea and a very positive step forward. I think we have to realize that this is a world wide problem...no one country can solve it. The world has to work together...and that isn't so easy. Kyoto at least showed that a majority of the planet could come together to work on an issue and move towards solid results...which in itself is a major feat accomplished. So, I am not about to write off kyoto as a very positive concept. I wouldn't say it is perfect, and I don't think it should remain stagnant...it should continue to evolve as new discoveries are made, as new breaththroughs in relations are made. This is where I feel Canada and the US are at fault...at least make the effort to work with the rest of the planet instead of saying "no, we're doing our own thing...smell you later, losers". Besides, just because you sign on to Kyoto, doesn't mean that you can't outdo Kyoto...right? Just because you can buy credits from other countries doesn't mean you HAVE to buy credits from other countries...right?
One point I would like to make on this issue is that we are on the dawn of a new era...we have had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial revolution, the silicon age, etc....we are at the beginning of the green age. There is so much potential here facing those who are willing to open their eyes and have the foresight to see just how they can profit from the changes that are coming our way. This is a time for new innovations, for bold ideas, for inventions and patents, for development in all sectors of the economy. This is a time for revitalization, a time to move forward, a time to create, a time to be creative. The ones who are coming to come out on top are not the guys who are whining and complaining about how the economy will be destroyed and our way of life will be wiped out with it, and we will all be living in cardboard boxes, or whatever. The ones who will come out on top are the ones who are seeing the potential...the massive new marketplace that is being opened up for them...the new age that we are faced with. The ones will come out on top are those who are willing to adapt...who don't look at what can't be done, or what will be lost...but who look at what will be gained and how they can make it work in their favour. I'm tired of hearing oil company execs, and conservative economists telling us that our society is doomed to a financial dismantling that will through millions out of work, and kill our cushy lives. It's crap. A green economy has as much potential to be a strong economy, if not a stronger economy, than what we have now. The fact is that much what needs to be done to improve the environment revolves around reducing, reusing and recycling. If you are reducing waste, you are saving money. If you are reusing as many resources as you can...you are saving money. If you are recycling, you are supporting a huge industry in itself and saving money along the way. So, screw the financial doomsdayers!

Holy crap, you are a complete and total idiot. Look, if you want to debate the issue, let's debate the issue. If you want to turn this into a kindergarten class, then you might want to consider leaving the forum. Your bull**** is not needed or desired around here, you little ****. What I was refering to was your needless "loser" comment on my rep list. If you choose to be so baby like in doing crap like that, you can expect a backlash. If you don't like it...too bad...use what little brains you have and make better choices. Like I said, if you want to piss people off, people are going to get pissed off at you. If you can't handle that, and all you want to do is post endless back and forth, tit for tat posts like you are, then you may as well leave the forum. It's pointless...and it's useless. If you want to a have a discussion...fantastic. We do not have to agree with one another. In fact, part of what makes these forums interesting is that we don't all agree. We have the potential to learn from one another. We can present our ideas. We can argue. We can have great conversations. But endless post after post of being a dick to one another is useless and proves nothing. If you wish to debate the issue at hand, which I think is an important issue, than I'm willing to discuss it. If you just want to be a little twat...forget it...conversation over.
Now...the issue of Kyoto. I don't think Kyoto is perfect, but I think that a great number of countries, using the Kyoto protocal have made great advances without destroying their economy and have set a good example for what can be achieved. I believe that Canada still has the ability to meet Kyoto targets. I don't believe for one second that it will destroy our economy. It will create large shifts in our economy...moving it to a green economy. But, I still feel that this should be looked at as an exciting time. A whole new market is being opened up to businesses with foresight. This is a golden opportunity for a great number of people to make a lot of money, through new patents and inventions, new developments, new ideas, new approaches. To get in on the ground level now while the green economy is very young has the potential to be very profitable in the future. When Bill Gates got in to the relatively young PC game as a younger man, he was on the edge of something big...and it paid off...big time for him. Who will be the bill gates of the green economy? It could be anyone. It could be many people. It's very exciting.
