1:59:40! Kenyan runner Eliud Kipchoge makes history as he shatters two-hour marathon barrier in Vienna by 20 SECONDS using LASER guidance, 41 pace-makers and revolutionary shoes

Eliud Kipchoge (inset) has become the first runner to finish a marathon in under two hours. The 34-year-old Kenyan completed the course in Vienna in an incredible one hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds (centre). Kipchoge was racing alone but assisted by 41 pacemakers, including former Olympic and world record holders in his attempt to achieve the milestone. The Kenyan utilised laser technology (left) to help pace his run while also keeping his team-mates in the perfect formation in order to help block any winds they faced. He also wore specially-designed Nike trainers that were designed for the attempt and included technology that sent energy used during each stride back into the shoe for an extra boost. After crossing the line, he said: I want to inspire many people, that no human is limited.' The attempt was sponsored by Ineos, which is owned by Britain's richest man, Jim Ratcliffe.

Kipchoge is Kenyan. He probably ran so fast because Ratcliffe left a tenner at the finishing line.
