The King and His Excellency the Governor of Bermuda Andrew Murdoch

His Majesty King Charles III is back in Britain - albeit a part of Britain which is 3,500 miles from the mainland.

It's the King's first visit to the British Overseas Territory - located 650 miles off the coast of South Carolina - since he opened that territory's parliament as Prince of Wales in 1970.

His Majesty - who writes his own speeches - hailed Bermuda as "a most cherished and important member of the British Family..."

He cracked jokes during his speech, something for which he is known.

It's the first day of his visit to the British territory...

The King received a warm welcome from the people of Bermuda and a 21-gun salute as he arrived in the British Overseas Territory.

The 64,000 residents of Bermuda are all Brits just like those living on the British mainland 3,500 miles away.

Thousands cheered and the King was greeted by British soldiers of the Royal Bermuda Regiment.

Queen Elizabeth II visited Bermuda six times between 1953 and 2009. However, King Charles III is the first King to visit the islands.
