RE: Keep off our tiny fro

They should declare it untouchable. Give any oil money to some charity that gives climate change refugees food or something.

What a bunch of rubes they are. You know what this whole thing is really about? Global warming, caused by burning oil, might open up practical ways to pump oil out of Hans Island so we can have more global warming.

We are led by fools.

To quote the MacLean brothers, "Somebody oughtta slip a c**t over their heads and f**k some sense into them."

RE: Keep off our tiny fro

That would require us being there, Vanni. We lack the resources for that.

How about we give the island to somebody completely unconnected with it? There was a guy who bought a WWII gun platform off of England and declared it his own separate country a few decades ago. Why not just call him up and ask him if he wants an island too? Let him expand his empire a bit. He didn't seem any less competent than Paul Martin or Anders Fogh Rasmussen, after all, and did have a sense of humour about the whole deal.

Either that or Queen Margrethe and Adrienne Clarkson should be made to wrestle naked in a vat of coleslaw for it. That's be...well...really scary, but in a funny way.

If Denmark wants it, let them have it. There is enough trouble on this planet without this kind of petty squabbling. Ca should be ashamed of itself for even engaging in this kind of pettiness.

Screw that, we have the Beaufort sea and the northwest passage that is only ours tenaciously at best and by letting the Danes have this with out so much as a retort will make those and even more claims fail as well. Time to say firmly but fairly to the Danes that we respect your opinion but get lost.

And what determines petty squabbling? The size of the area? Would you feel the same way if the Danes said they were disputing.....say......Nova Scotia?

EDIT: Personally I like mrmoms idea....bitch slap them.

RE: Keep off our tiny fro

Our claim to Hans Island is no more solid than the Danes' though, Scape. If either side had a solid claim this would have been settled long ago. The truth is that both Canada and Denmark have been claiming ownership since 1973, but neither country cared enough to actually do anything about it. Now that there's a possibility of oil, it's suddenly a big deal.

Split it down the center and make it some sort of "International Peace Park" or something. It may get a couple visitors a year.

Amazing how much stink over a little 100 yard long island, but if we do not stand up for our rights , whats next? Especially with future possible oil developement in the area. I know we have a some disputes on the Alaska side of the Arctic too.

If Denmark has lower taxes on Liquor or smokes maybe they could set up shop on their half? ha ha

Give it back to the natives. That's part of what both countries are basing their claims on anyway, that their natives have traditionally used the island on hunting trips.

No, land is, shall and will always be a 'big deal'. Wars are fought for it.

But nobody cared until a couple of years ago, Scape. It wouldn't be a big deal now except for the two countries claiming Hans Island now see a chance at profits.

Does this squabble remind anyone of toddler tug-of-wars that are punctuated with shrill voices shreiking "MINE" :D
Kind of looks that way to me, but I could be spending way too much time breaking up fights between my kids. any whoo, Lets give the seperatists an dilapitated dried out oil rig, and call that fellow that the rev has heard of, I think he'd be an ingenious leader
