The swelling Effect. Ottawa to make marijuana legal. More federal employees will be needed to inspect and enforce the new regulations. That's swell. Ontario to create the Cannibas Control Board (CCB) to manage the sale and distribution of cannabis. More provincial employees will be needed to inspect and enforce the new regulations. That's swell.

Jiminy Jillickers! Leave it to government to take something simple and complicate it all to heck! (Francais au verso.)

Kathleen Wynne is no nanny on marijuana sales: Cohn

To those who dream of dope distribution on demand, be careful what you wish for. You can have too much of a good thing.

My nanny never dealt me dope.

That’s why I’m flummoxed by the flurry of protests against Premier Kathleen Wynne, accused of being Ontario’s nanny-in-chief in the matter of marijuana sales.

Pushing dope isn’t in the job description for normal nannies. And yet our premier is prepared to serve it up.

Seems nanny is now a dirty word in our ideological wars, hurled at any hint of government regulation or red tape: Seatbelt laws, motorcycle helmets, gun registries, booze controls, drug restrictions — all evidence of the nanny state repressing and dressing us down, conspiring to inhibit our presumed right to imbibe and inhale in a haze.

Ontario's plans for the legal sales of marijuana sound like a disaster. Licensing only a few very large suppliers is going to result in continued illegal sales; which is exactly what legalization was intended to eliminate.

It must be pretty bad for Wynne if she is even losing the Star .

Wynne's days are through. The Liberals can still get elected in Ontario, if Wynne goes away.

That is possible, in large part, because the PCs have Patrick Brown.

Ontario is messed up. I don't see a way that we'll be able to unbury ourselves for many years to come.

Kathleen Wimp is a spineless politician. She refused to grant an exemption to the Sikh community from having to wear helmets while riding a motorcycle and accommodate their religious practices, even though such accomodation has been granted to them in BC, Manitoba and even the UK. Kathleen Wimp doesn’t deserve to be premier, we need a real leader who reflects the racial diversity of Ontario in 2017. I actually think Jagmeet Singh should first run for Premier of Ontario instead of the leadership of the NDP. He is the MPP for Bramalea-Gore-Malton and has done a great job representing our South Asian community in provincial parliament.
