Prince Philip's 60-year war with the photographers

Telling a photographer at a Battle of Britain junket to "just take the f---ing picture" is only the latest clash in a long career

Prince Philip is an old sea dog. Indeed, the Queen made him Lord High Admiral on his 90th birthday. So one would expect him to have a full repertoire of salty language. Telling a photographer to “just take the f---ing picture” at the photocall for the Battle of Britain commemoration must be considered mild.

The Duke of Edinburgh has long had a reputation for plain speaking – and a chafing relationship with press photographers.

The Duke of Edinburgh may be 94-years-old but he’s still going strong, if this latest video is anything to go by.

Prince Philip was attending an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Britain when he let fly with an expletive.

Apparently losing his patience as he waited for a group photograph to be taken, the Greek-born British royal was filmed grumbling: “Just take the ****ing picture.”
The elderly Duke is known for his colourful turn of phrase, and once told Downing Street to "**** off" over plans for Princess Diana's funeral.

Sky Political editor Adam Boulton revealed in a memoir: "The events of that week in September 1997 were very sad, but as the spinners from Downing Street came to Buckingham Palace and started to kick around what roles Harry and William should play in the funeral, the Queen had relished the moment when Philip had bellowed over the speakerphone from Balmoral: '**** off. We are talking about two boys who have lost their mother'."
Philip's latest outburst came during a picture call at the RAF Club on Friday.

The Duke himself is an ex-military man and was a first lieutenant in the course of the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943.

Having joined the Royal Navy as a 17-year-old cadet, he was awarded the Greek Cross of Valour for his courage in the battle. By the time he became engaged to Queen Elizabeth in 1947, he was a Commander after being promoted aged 21 to a Lieutenant, one of the youngest officers in the Navy to be second in command of a ship.

Prince Philip: The Man, the Legend.

The world will miss him when he's gone.

Plus, William's reaction at hearing his granddad use the f-word to a photographer was priceless.

When you're 90+ you can tell anyone off. Good on the prince.

You go ask him and don't come back here until you get an answer.

Go now, off with ya!

I wish I could. The Royals are the sort of people that my sort should be keeping company with.

OMFG, that was an absolute, no holds barred, belly laugh. The dog is a little afraid and I may have awoken the neighbours.

But by gosh old chap, why are you wasting so much time here amongst us bloody colonials? Clearly you should be elsewhere, now, off with ya now.

Now Ruprecht, that's not very 20th century boy of you.

Oh I bet ol' Phil would like me best anyhow. He's a straight shooter, so am I.

But our little buddy here does seem to have a large piece of wood inserted in some naughty places. Pretty sure Phil would be "just pull the fukking thing out!":D
