Here is an older post to illustrate that neither Leopards nor LIE-berals change their spots!
Yet again, our grossly entitled LIE-berals seem to have got themselves in trouble. A recent news report that our LIE-beral loving media barely reported suggests that LIE-berals may not have learned from previous scandals. Seven prominent Quebec LIE-berals have been arrested in connection with various tax fraud charges related to Roche Engineering The exact charges that may be laid against the Lie-berals are not yet known but 67 fraud charges have been laid against officials of Roche group and Pluritect-another Quebec engineering firm..
The charges are as yet unproven, and are not yet even fully listed, but for us cynics the whole thing has the usual taint and odour of LIE-beral ENTITLEMENTS! Quebec’s anti-corruption squad has arrested seven high-ranking members of the provincial Liberal party, including two former cabinet ministers.
Among those arrested early Thursday is the former Liberal deputy premier of Quebec, Nathalie Normandeau, and former minister Marc-Yvan Côté, Bruno Lortie, Mario Martel, France Michaud, Ernest Murray and François Roussy.
A spokesperson for UPAC, the Unité permanente anticorruption, did not immediately confirm the arrests Thursday morning. But a news conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday.
Côté was also a vice-president at the Roche engineering firm, and at least two other former Roche employees were also arrested Thursday.
The reason for the arrest of Normandeau 47, are not yet known. UPAC had been investigating political financing of both the Liberal Party and the Parti Québécois. Earlier this week, UPAC laid 67 tax fraud charges against Roche Groupe and Pluritec, another engineering firm.
In June 2014 Normandeau appeared before the Charbonneau Commission. Her name had come up in previous testimony at the commission.
Among other things, the former Liberal MNA for Bonaventure is alleged to have used her ministerial powers to increase provincial subsidies on certain construction projects. Witnesses at the Charbonneau Commission also suggested she benefitted from illegal fundraising activities.
Normandeau is now a radio host in Quebec City.
Police alleged Côté and Lortie committed fraud, conspiracy, influence peddling and infractions to the electoral law, according to applications for search warrants unsealed in 2014. The documents allege Côté was able to wield significant influence within the office of Normandeau, when she was minister of municipal affairs. He and Lortie, Normandeau’s chief of staff, were close friends and considered themselves to be like family.
Police uncovered several emails in 2011 showing a system of false invoicing and illegal financing engaged by Roche, and that the company received privileged information, and was able to rig the tender process to its advantage.
In March 2008, a person, whose identity was redacted in the document, sent an email to Roche project manager Yves Gaillardetz, and Îles-de-la-Madeleine city councillor Jonathan Lapierre, saying that the call for tenders for a water filtration project would be put on hold until after the three of them could meet for Roche to get privileged information about the project.
In Quebec City, premier Philippe Couillard said the rules around political financing have changed in recent years, and that the Liberal Party he now leads is “exemplary” when it comes to political financing.

Mexican Uber driver in U.S. illegally charged with raping four women

LOS ANGELES — A Mexican Uber driver living in the U.S. illegally was charged Monday with raping, assaulting and robbing young women in California, prosecutors said.
(At least taxi drivers have to pass a police background check before getting their licence- apparently Uber does not have such basic security?)
Alfonso Alarcon-Nunez’s four alleged victims are between 19 and 22 years old and three were intoxicated when they were assaulted, San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow told reporters.
Officials said Alarcon-Nunez was not always driving for Uber when he picked up those women but said the alleged crimes show that the company should improve its driver screening process, Dow said.
(And as the guy was in country illegally I assume he had no drivers license? And as an illegal there would be no car registration papers? And no insurance? Insurance companies generally refuse to pay out if you have an accident while using your vehicle as a taxi so if the guy kills or injures somebody there will be NO payback- even assuming he had ANY insurance to begin with! And Yankees have their own version of Drive Clean so no emissions test for the vehicle- and that means no license plate either- so is he stealing plates? How big a nuisance is this guy?)

(And there is the deal with Uber- neither you the customer nor the company really know who is driving you around and nobody knows who will pay if you get hurt- with the odds being VERY HIGH that NOBODY will compensate you!)
Alarcon-Nunez, 39, faces 10 criminal charges including forcible rape, rape of an intoxicated victim, oral copulation of an intoxicated victim and first degree burglary. It wasn’t immediately known if Alarcon-Nunez has an attorney. His arraignment was scheduled for later Monday.
Detectives are looking for potential witnesses and trying to determine if there are additional victims in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties northwest of Los Angeles, where the Alarcon-Nunez had been driving for Uber since September of last year, Dow said. He had a valid California license issued in 2015.
(OH- so he DID have a license? One issued under that Sanctuary City crap no doubt? Where illegals are coddled on the tax payer dime and so what if the country is BROKE?)
Prosecutors said Alarcon-Nunez solicited rides as an Uber driver, targeting drunk women. Then he drove women to their homes, assaulted them, and stole property including cellphones, computers, and jewelry, officials said.
He collected his fare payments through the smartphone app Venmo to disguise his identity and his Uber records, officials said.
(So we can assume the guy ain’t paying income taxes?)
Alarcon-Nunez has also gone by the name “Bruno Diaz” and his Venmo username was “Brush Bat,” prosecutors said.
Predators in cars parked outside bars or restaurants “jump in front of the actual Uber driver and they will take someone unsuspecting to their home. And that’s a way of putting someone at risk, and in this case that’s exactly what’s alleged to have happened,” Dow said.
Dow urged Uber users to make sure they are getting in the car of the correct driver by verifying the license plate and other information provided to clients.
DNA evidence helped lead detectives to Alarcon-Nunez, who was arrested at his Santa Maria home last week, Dow said. The alleged crimes are said to have occurred in December and January in San Luis Obispo, a city of about 45,000 with a large population of college students.
Dow urged Uber and other ride-hailing companies to beef up background checks. Uber spokesman Michael Amodeo did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
(AS Uber is set up specifically to get around various legal requirements related to taxes and license it seems unlikely they will bother cleaning up their act other than to make some modest cosmetic changes!)
Alarcon-Nunez returned to the U.S. illegally after a voluntary deportation from New Mexico in 2005, officials said. Dow did not have details about why he was deported or whether he has a criminal record in the U.S.

Alarcon-Nunez’s immigration status will not have a bearing on the prosecution, Dow said. He could face life in prison if convicted on all charges.

Yet if a govt union worker went to a private business as a customer- and told the biz owner that one of his staff had called the govt worker “overpaid” it would the private sector worker in trouble with his boss! Freedom of speech is currently a ONE WAY STREET!
Liberals have announced they want to start censoring the internet- to make it easier to remove posts that are “bullying, untrue or unfair”. The problem is that Liberals think that critics of their MANY FAILED POLICIES are “bullying, untrue and unfair”! This is repression of free speech- for the selfish benefit of Liberal Party- masquerading as public fairness!
Liberals say they want new laws to make it easier to take down posts that “bully” or that offer “fake news”- will this mean that anybody who publicly agrees with Ontari-owe auditor general Bonnie Lysyk as she insists that Liberals lied about their 2017 budget being balanced will now be censored and denied access to the web?

With temperatures plunging well below freezing, and people dying in Toronto streets, it is astonishing Mayor John Tory could not see why he should listen to “activists.”
On Dec. 6, Tory and city council sought to address Toronto’s shortage of shelter beds by authorizing the transfer of $10.6 million to provide 400 beds “as soon as is practically possible.”
But they rejected a recommendation from the Community Development and Recreation Committee to open 1,000 new shelter beds to meet the standard of 90% shelter occupancy across all sectors. They also declined the committee’s request for the mayor to ask the federal government to open emergency shelters at Fort York and Moss Park armouries.
(Most of this stuff is “sound and fury and signifies nothing”! The city is bankrupt. The city is also overloaded with illegals who have been invited here by Our idiot Boy Justin- with NO THOUGHT as to how they will be fed or housed or put to any useful work! Tory and his moronic minions have declared Toronto to be a “sanctuary city”- which means encouraging people we cannot deal with to flood into the city and overload local services!)
The mayor’s plan was widely criticized as insufficient. Rafi Aaron, of the Interfaith Coalition to Fight Homelessness, likened the plan to “shoehorning 400 spaces into already crowded drop in centres and shelters.”
In response, Tory expressed anger at the criticism of “a few activists.” The mayor asked, “Why is it when it comes to opening the armouries and when it comes to how we solve these problems, why should we take the word of these one or two people as having the gospel?”
(Sadly, the “activists” do not want to discuss the major jump in shelter use- as rents in Toronto soar- nor do they want to discuss how many shelter beds are being used by illegals that Cdns think should never have been allowed in and who Cdns think should be swiftly deported!)

While we know and respect the mayor, we feel compelled to explain to him why the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) takes the word of these “activists.”
(Activists scorn the use of empty CNE buildings as shelters for the homeless because the buildings are too far from prime pan handling territories in financial district and theatre district! Thus it is inconvenient to for homeless people to live where its convenient for the city planners and alternative solutions are being demanded! It is also obvious that the steady stream of illegals will not slow any time soon- even though we disapprove of their arrival- and activists are being proactive- getting things ready for all the new arrivals that will need costly access to various city services and it will not be convenient for them to be isolated on CNE grounds!)
Activists are vital to a healthy civil society and to democracy itself. In fact, nurses are activists on many fronts. The mayor knows this, and from time to time has thanked us for it. Registered nurses (RN) like Cathy Crowe, nurse practitioners (NP) like Jessica Hales, psychiatrists like Michaela Beder and social workers like Madeleine Ritts work directly with people who are homeless.
(Being “thanked” by the likes of spineless John Tory- with his focus on buying votes at any price in a desperate effort to save his job- is not the great thing these activists think it is! Certainly such thanks do NOT translate into significant general public support!)
Some have done community outreach for many years like Gaeten Heroux, Beric German, and others with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP). Some have personal experience being precariously housed and some work within the shelter system. These activists have a strong track record of getting results.
(The OCAP lunatic fringe such as Gaeten Heroux- has done “great work”? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)
Crowe and OCAP helped convince Mayor Tory to open warming shelters and other services after two people died on Toronto streets in early January 2015. And harm reduction workers like Zoe Dodd and RN Leigh Chapman have helped prevent at least 115 overdose deaths over four months by opening an unsanctioned overdose prevention service in Moss Park.
(Another way to look at the fentanyl harm reduction “strategy” is that people who want to die stoned and happy are being frustrated in their desires!)

It took years of urging by activists for Toronto to start collecting data on homeless deaths in the city. Toronto Public Health identified that 70 people who were homeless died in the first nine months of 2017, more than half of whom were under the age of 48. The city’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa cautioned this number is likely under reported.
(And city numbers on homeless issues are still being manipulated! For one thing we ought to separate the mentally ill from those who are simply unable to find a decent paying job in this over taxed city! The mentally ill CAN be dealt with if supplied with suitable drugs- and then are compelled to take the drugs regularly! But LIE-berals think it is unfair to compel crazy people to take drugs that will enable them to rejoin society in a sensible way - LIE-berals think it is our right and privilege to wander the streets in a mental fog begging for scraps and following our demons- rather than being forced to be sane and sober and useful citizens!)
Toronto’s shelters are overburdened. The city’s own daily census showed at least 5,500 people used shelters from Dec. 15-17, when shelters had an overall occupancy rate of 96 per cent.
And this does not include drop-in services or the faith-based, volunteer Out of the Cold programs. Over those three nights, there were up to 113 individuals at Out of the Cold programs, up to 256 people at 24-hour winter respite service drop-ins, and at least 100 individuals at 24-hour women’s drop-ins each night. That means 469 people were crammed together on mats or trying to sleep in chairs, often with inadequate toilet facilities. These conditions add extra stress and indignity for people who are already distressed, and also create an environment where germs are easily spread. As the activists have told us, using the armories and adding 1,000 more shelter beds are ways to address the immediate crisis and move towards the 90 per cent occupancy standard.
We can do better as a city that aspires to be decent, let alone world-class. RNAO urges Mayor Tory to open the armouries now while working with other mayors, the provincial and federal governments to build a humane shelter system for Toronto and elsewhere, create affordable and supportive housing, improve mental health, addiction, and overdose prevention services, and increase income security. The federal government is just waiting to be asked by the city for help. Lives are in the balance, Mayor Tory, please listen and immediately act.

(There WOULD be more money for aiding the homeless if we did not waste so much of it in other areas- one has to ask just how much those tens of thousands of illegals that Cdns do NOT see as a priority- are costing us every month? And how much will it cost to ship back home the ones we decide we don’t want? City spending nearly $60K to find new name for homeless shelters

The city’s shelter bureaucrats are spending $59,700 on a consultant to create a new name for Toronto’s emergency shelter system, says a report debated at the city’s Community Development committee Wednesday.
The item — called “Renaming Shelters” — is buried in a 58-page report that largely details how the city’s shelter, support and housing (SSHA) officials intend to expand the number of emergency hostels and improve services to an increasing number of homeless clients.
(Yeah- and none of the LIE-berals want to discuss WHY there is such an upsurge of “homeless”! Nobody wants to talk about the rent gouging, the frozen wages, the reduced hours of work, the lost jobs that cannot be replaced, the massive tax hikes so LIE-berals can BUY civil service union Hog votes! And what of the teeming tens of thousands of illegals that LIE-beral have invited here and want to keep? LIE-berals are handling Cdn immigration policy as if they were the equivalent of crazy cat ladies scooping up every stray they can find!)
SSHA spokesman Patricia Anderson confirmed the cost- which is not included in the report- along with the consultant, Strategic Retreats. Anderson said the consultants are conducting background research and public engagement to develop name options, test them- through polling and focus groups- and produce a report.
(The company doing the “work” is called Strategic Retreats? HAHAHAHA! There is real irony for you since all LIE-beral policy is in disgrace and in full retreat!)
“The options for a new name identified will reflect the positive roles that shelters play in neighbourhoods and in the lives of Toronto’s most vulnerable residents,” the report adds.
(And will the new name also reflect the greed of civil service Hogs and poverty pimps who ride the Silly Hall gravy train? Disgusted citizens want to know!)
I suspect the new name will either try to put a social/justice/equity/intersectional lens on the homeless shelters or be so confusing that residents in a particular neighbourhood will have no clue what’s coming their way.
(LIE-berals do so enjoy HIDING their true intentions till its too late!)
Perhaps that is deliberate because as I’ve reported, council — led by Mayor John Tory — opted during the 2018 budget deliberations to throw another $256 million at the homeless industry to add another 1,000 shelter beds this year and over the next two years.
As we heard Wednesday, that includes 291 beds- some 121 of them new, the rest replacement beds- at five sites this year and another 880 at 11 more (to be determined) sites.
(And we KNOW that LIE-berals and their poverty pimp allies have scorned the cheap and easy use of empty CNE buildings on the grounds they are not well sited and hard to get to - apparently meaning CNE is not near prime pan handling territory! Poverty pimps seem to think that if homeless shelters are rammed down our throats then we will be motivated somehow to do more about the homeless- too bad LIE-berals refuse to recognize it is their FAILED policies that are producing those homeless!)
But it is interesting to note that none of the members of the committee — so few of whom attended the morning meeting that it had to be postponed until 1:30 p.m. — raised the re-naming project or where the money will come from to add and operate all these beds.
(We can bet that little fiscal detail will be discussed AFTER the October municipal elections! Though Silly Hall denizens may have bigger fish to fry then - such as a possible REDUCTION in provincial funding transfers to the city! Toronto Hogs already get TEN TIMES MORE funding- per citizen- from the province than municipal govts in other cities! It is unsustainable greed!)
It took former Liberal health minister and failed mayoral candidate George Smitherman — who turned up to speak suggesting a city councillor campaign is in his future — to remind them that the report states how provincial changes have made shelter funding “unstable.”
(“Furious George “ Smirtherman is NOT the guy to turn to for smooth handling of city finances- he is an unregenerate LIE-beral!)
In fact, the report shows quite clearly that since 2013 — when the province capped the hostel per diem — city spending on shelters has grossly outpaced provincial funding. The city is now spending $100 million more annually than it did on shelters in 2009 but the province is only providing $60 million a year more in the way of subsidies.
(And Toronto has ONLY itself to blame- running out of money is an unpleasant side effect of WASTING what you had! Hogtown hypocrites are so amusing in their frustration- they want to spend the money but want somebody else to do the dirty work of beating it out of tax payer hides!)
Shelter staff also note in their report that with all the “expansion”- note: spending- on homeless shelters, the city will have to spend an extra $18 million each year in the future.
(Oh poor babies- maybe being a sanctuary city that is currently being invaded by illegals and being stony broke are connected somehow?)
“As a result, Toronto is having to rely more on the city tax base to fund the growing demand in the shelter system,” the report says.
(Imagine! The City has to spend its own money to pay for its own wasteful policies instead of picking the pockets of other levels of govt! How unfair is that? HAHAHAHAHA!!!!)
That doesn’t include a new shelter model and name that will be put in place in 2018 and beyond. That will require extra money, city staff said Wednesday.
How much is anybody’s guess.
(Unskilled Muslims with no ability in English are one category; Cdns rendered homeless because they cannot find a job or pay their bills are another category; the mentally ill homeless are yet another category- with each having special needs- that LIE-berals are IGNORING!)
Perhaps we should start calling our emergency shelter system The City Hall Money Pit.
Vacant TCHC units to go to homeless clients
There’s good news on the Toronto Community Housing Corp. (TCHC) vacancy front.
Mayor John Tory told me this week about 100 bachelor units that have been repeatedly considered hard to rent at Canada’s largest housing authority are in the process of being turned over to the city’s Streets to Homes people to house homeless clients.
(That`s nice- drug addicts and those suffering from untreated mental illnesses will be happy to have the units- until uncontrolled behaviour and lack of rent money becomes a problem for us all! Ms. Levy has already detailed the soaring amounts of UNCOLLECTED TCHC rent money that Toronto will NOT be getting!)
“The bachelor apartments are a good match-up for people who otherwise find themselves in shelters,” he said. “She’s (TCHC CEO Kathy Milsom) got a focussed campaign on to offer them to Streets to Homes.”
I’m thrilled, considering I wondered in a Jan. 22 column why that wasn’t happening given the $256 million slated to be spent on 1,000 new shelter beds.
(Why are things happening slowly? First Hogs have to find the money without making other levels of gov LOOK BAD! You cannot be a sanctuary city if you cannot provide living space for those needing sanctuary! And LIE-berals are already in enough trouble over their handling of immigration generally, their handling of illegals specifically, the Omar Khadr Krap with its $10.5 million dollar bill, the $40 million more handed out to 3 other Muslims, their welfare bills for helping returning Isis fighters and jihadist brides and children! And Hogtown LIE-berals MUST suck up to their provincial and federal counterparts in a delicate way so as noit to enrage the public!
