I think the main point that a lot of people are missing is the fact that the fluctuation in the job market had very little to do with either president. "Make work" jobs are Okay for a short term fix but eventually they take their toll too.
You might want to pick up a recent newspaper; they're currently the natural opposition party.
Sometimes, Obama and the Democrats get criticized (rightfully so) for delaying in taking action to prevent another future recession. Like, passing banking reform to address the causes of the recession. But I still feel one step at a time.
Immediate economic stabilization was more important when Obama got into office. It's like treating a patient in an ER. Stabilize the patient first, and worry about his ethical failings that led him to have the medical emergency later.
PolitiFact.com's Obameter is a US national treasure. It tracks about 500 promised that Obama made when he was a presidential candidate. So far, 110 promises have been kept and 19 have been broken.

Obama's an okay president. Like any president, he's going to be bad in some way, but by presidental standards, Obama's good.
They were also in opposition during eight Mulroney years, so what is your point? And natural opposition party? Surely you don't mean that.
After all, what is good for Alberta is good for Canada.
So surely you want Liberal Party to disappear
Don't you guys get sick of backing one side over any issue that has any result?
It's all partisan baloney. If you're on the right Obama could walk and water and be criticized for his poor swimming. Same goes the other way. Don't you guys get sick of backing one side over any issue that has any result?
How do they survive in this life? There is no challenge to be a liberal in Canada. There is one thing in your response that I would change (relative to Canada at least):
"Liberals don't understand that it is up to the cities, towns and states to be prepared for emergencies."
Generally, those people that piss and moan about the inaction of the federal government on state/prov/muni issues are those that expect (albeit, need) some form of government to tuck them in at night, wake them up in the morning - and everything in between.
... The liberal mentality is kinda humorous at first, but gets really sickening after a while.
True. But according to Republicans, any success on the part of the Obama agenda is a "failure" as far as they are concerned. Ya got it."Quite so, there has been a steady improvement in the job situation since Obama took office. In the beginning, of course nobody thought anything of it. After all, if you have only 400, 000 job losses rather than 500,000, that is hardly anything to boast about, is it? But the job picture kept on improving slowly and by now there is jobs growth."
True. But according to Republicans, any success on the part of the Obama agenda is a "failure" as far as they are concerned.
I know this is a letter of a man that will never read my comment but it was posted by a member here .World War II vet's letter to Obama
Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.
.
Money is your god now
- "We're no longer a Christian nation"
As much of that is honorable and true there were alot more conflicts that could of freed alot of strangers that the U.S. could of gotten involved with..Rwanda, Bosnia-Yugoslavia area but the fact that they had no resources of interest they dragged thier feet till thousands died needlessly.
- "America is arrogant" - (Your wife even announced to the world,"America is mean-spirited." Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)
After 9/11 you said, "America hasn't lived up to her ideals."
Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal libert that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.
Again , that was then this is now and America of old is not in the same mindset. Greed has taken over
I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.
Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue . You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
Many other Presidents have done worst and have never really came to light
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight? You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.
This war on terrorism has no line in the sand that defines who's the real bad guy , like it used too during the worls war and cold war. Times have changed so is the way you look at your enemies.
One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.
Why is it that the mindset of having done service has to mean something? Many men have as good or greater values that never had served.
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.
You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.
Unfortunatly America has lost it soul long ago
And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle ...
Sincerely,
Harold B. Estes
