There was an interesting documentary on PBS last night about bin Laden. Very, very interesting.
Having said that, bin Laden was a known threat for a long time. He did, after all, help in the first attempt to bring down the WTC. He also preached against the US, and helped with bombings in Africa and Saudi Arabia.
There's no doubt he exists, and al Qaeda is his creation. That said, I do believe that Bush and Co "allowed" 9/11 to happen, on the belief that it wouldn't be as bad as it was. They probably figured it would only be 2 or 3 hundred killed.
