Maybe this will help you Huck?

How Does Inflation Affect the Level of Interest Rates?

Inflation is one reason interest exists; lenders must be compensated for the decline in the purchasing power of what they lend. So, rates generally are high when inflation is expected to be rapid.

Inflation expectations are based heavily on recent inflation. So, rates generally are high when inflation is rapid.

Yes, thats very good ITN, and you are right. The thing we must remember is that inflation is caused by multiple factors. But, it is ultimately caused by anything that will cause business of a country to absorb losses by increasing prices.

When the interrest is high, it creates inflation by the mechanism i demonstrated. But, it is also used as an deflation technique by stimulating unemployment and hoping that this will cause wadges to reduce, decreasing costs and decreasing inflation.

This is a complex dynamic...

here is from wikipedia (i would use encarta, but i dont have access to it from where i am)

Monetary policy

Central banks such as the U.S. Federal Reserve System can affect inflation to a significant extent through setting interest rates and through other operations (i.e., using monetary policy). High interest rates (and slow growth of the money supply) are the traditional ways that central banks fight inflation, using unemployment and the decline of production to prevent price increases.

Huck, you wouldn't know the difference between an economist and an ecologist.

The toro is now dead. Huck, the toreador bows to the cheering crowd and draws you his reverence... 8)

Economic ignorance allows us to fall easy prey to political charlatans and demagogues, don't believe me? Behold the rodent cheering you on.
