These were defunct asylums of New England, as the article clearly states. The supposed elctric shock machine in actually an autoclave, for sterilizing instruments, by the way.
Very cool. It kind of is a new thing for kids to do. They get into these buildings and explore and take photos.
I don't know if the current method of dealing with the mentally ill.. that of turning them loose into homelessness and raving on the streets is any more humane than these images indicate.
For everything gained there is something lost.
The people who were once committed to those institutions are now wandering around homeless sleeping under bridges and going hungry.
