If Rogers & Bell are against it, it must somehow benefit consumers

I beg to differ, DirecTV has been bought out by AT&T. Now I'm funding US Corrupt Cable companies who pay for Lobbyist. (I fund the Corrupt US Government) ;)

DirecTV, actually offers 400 channels of TV, unlike like Bell that offer CBC Atlantic, CBC East, CBC Central, CBC Pacific and claims that as 4 channels.. same sh*t with CTV, Omni etc

The only real difference is the programming starts 1 hr later.. That's why I have TIVO, if I want to watch something, I'll record it..

We're back on freedom of thought. How is it not obvious that every corporation attempts to get as much as it can whilst giving as little as it can? (As do all actors in the marketplace.) So the focus should be on how we limit the ability of actors in the marketplace to take excessive or undue amounts relative to what they give.

But you go right ahead on thinking in stereotypes, screaming "Corrupt bastards!" and blaming a predator for hunting. Enjoy your outrage.

In this household Bell is a four letter word! Started waaay back when they kept emailing me that an upgrade to faster data speed was available with "Fibe" only to go online and attempt the changeover to be told "sorry your area does not support that service" - so stop sending me the freak'n emails then you azzholes! Next up: "when are you going to install fiber opticin my area as I've been a 56 year customer of yours for all services"? Answer: "We have no plans to upgrade your area sir".

Next up Wightman sends a mailer around notifying us of their plans to hang fiber optic throughout our area and we can sign up; keep our phone number get ten features, basic cable TV with digital HD channels, internet speeds with no data limits for the one time sign up offer of $89.00 a month! I'm presently paying Bell over $250 for all my bundled services!

Gave me great pleasure to hear that "This call is being recorded for quality purposes" when I finally got patched to the complaints section of Bell and was able to speak with a rep as I was able to tell the person to be sure to take the recording to the next team meeting so they could hear a long term customer telling them that since they do not value their customers "it was sayonara suckers".

They got all that income for over 50 years and did not think once about upgrading their infrastructure so they can kiss my rosy red ****!

I fully understand what you're saying. It won't even be considered a speed bump for a snail to them but it did make me feel better.
And with your outrage diffused, you can now go about doing whatever you do instead of channeling your dissatisfaction into something productive.

methinks Tecumsehsbones has shares in Bell Canada..
Yep, argumentum ad hominem. Beats thinking, I guess. Thinking's hard.

Well at least I direct my sarcasm towards an universally agreed-upon target of ire rather then anonymous posters on a public forum.

Whatsamattah; did the rhubarb pie for breakfast disagree with your acne med's?

Great article...

Is Sport a Religion? | Psychology Today

Shaped by the needs of capitalist systems, spectator sports serve vested interests as a type of "cultural anesthesia," a form of "spiritual masturbation," or "opiate" that distracts, diverts, and deflects attention from the pressing social problems and issues of the day [Wann, pp 201-202].

Explains a lot.

The same could be said of TV or for that matter, just about any form of entertainment. Most people get that

I don't rightly recollect using that term, but you go right ahead on and be outraged anyhow, mmm-kay?
Oh; in my continued efforts to supply you with the inane discourse you apparently value, I can help with your memory deficit with this quote from your first patornizing response:

".....instead of channeling your dissatisfaction into something productive."

My reading comprehension skills are still valid and current so you must indeed, consider this bumph we're currently engaged in as "something productive" because....here you are, yet again.

People who only watch sports are nerds.

Jocks not Nerds.

Nerd in Green, Jock in Blue

Cable and satellite providers must provide skinny basic packages priced at $25 a month to every consumer by March 1, 2016, the CRTC says.

The federal broadcast regulator laid out a timetable Thursday for changes to ways television signals are distributed across Canada.

In addition to the basic $25 package, cable and satellite providers must move to a pick-and-pay system or offer small bundles of channels, also by the March 1 deadline. They must offer both by Dec. 1 of next year.

The basic package must include channels on the CRTC's mandatory distribution list, including CBC, CTV and Global, and aboriginal and minority English or French language channels. In addition a group of U.S. channels could be included, usually CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and non-commercial channel PBS.

At least 10 of the channels must be local or regional, including the community channel and the proceedings of the provincial legislature, if available.

TV viewers will then be able to supplement this with either individual channels or small bundled channel packages.

$25 basic cable package must be in place by March 1 - Business - CBC News

I have been at peoples homes who have cable and all of the American channels seem to feature goober shows like Gator Hunting or Duck calls or Tow truck rescues and other junk.

No American channels would be acceptable........

Maybe Trudeau could propose at least one channel from each country to make us all equal?

The CRTC is why I don't have cable. At least the internet isn't so censored... yet.

Yep - I worked out that of the one or 200 channels I could watch my wife and I watch about 10. The rest are pretty much rubbish. Sadly several channels like the Discovery Channel and A&E used to host quality programs. Now it is mostly garbage featuring a lot of people badly in need of dental attention. I have discovered that the best way to watch many series is to wait until a couple of season have passed and then take them out of the library. It is much cheaper than Netflix and doesn't suck up any of my limited bandwidth.
