Idaho Potatoes Banned

Potatoes from the State of Idaho of the United States of America have been banned in Canada, and the United Mexican States; Japan has banned potatoes from the United States entirely, as opposed to a state-specific ban. A pest, the potato cyst nematode, was detected on a farm in Idaho, and is considered a serious pest — therefore, some nations have elected to act to protect their own agriculture economies from the dangers that the pest poses.

Whether it creates a problem or not to the US it isn't anybodys problem except ours. Countries have the right to block anything they consider threatening.

nah, it's old news now, but old GW said that this "british" beef problem would never affect the us.....when all of a sudden 5 cows in nebraska ar diagnosed with having it. thats more at any one time than the UK, BSE is pretty much all over the planet now.

It would be good revenge if we banned American potatoes - and then kept the ban going even if it was deemed illegal.

I love Idaho potatoes.....

If they have nemetodes or not - I am certain I have consumed many of these little stinkers before because I frequent the farmers' markets around my town on Saturdays when they have roadside stands and sell right out of the field...god love em....

I am certain I have ingested many pesticides too - even though I wash everything carefully - but it is probably right in the meat of the vegetables and fruits...

Just east of where I live in the valley of California they use defoliant for cotton in September - the same as the stuff which made so many Vietnam Vets sick.

It's everywhere - and we could worry ourselves to death worrying.

I hate potatoes, I will not eat them. On a side note: The Peel of a Potatoe has a natural chemical that is poisoness the potatoe produces this chemical to ward of insects.
