Well, with all the negative vibes I'm getting off this forum today I think we need a happy thread.

I think I'm one lucky Lass to live in Canada. Compared to many poor countries in the world Canadians live in paradise. I have a great family, dog, husband, job, home. My health and health care is there if I needed it. I never go hungry, unless by choice, I'm warm and safe. I need not fear Males in Canadian society, I can wear a skirt and not live in fear of having myself caned or beaten by some sour faced man who's never "Gotton Any". I can practise my religion without fear and I can be proud of my mongol heritage-Scots, MicMac, English, German, now you know why I can yell so loud.

God Bless the Queen.

Though I am extremely thankful I was born in Canada a enlightend social democratic nation where people basically get a fair chance in life, I think it's far from being a "paradise".

um, long live the republican dream of William Lyon Mackenzie!

Cheeseburgers are comfort food. Some women need comforting. Do you really know how comforting it is for a woman to look at the flag, select a mashie rather a niblick, knowing she selected the correct club for that particular shot?

nope Zoofer, clearly I've been depraved... er... deprived.

the first line in my signature sums up all this "country lovin".

Shouldn't your criticism then go beyond national boundaries?

While it's true that nation-state building was practiced for reasons that were not as honourable as we'd like to believe, in the 17th century, living within certain boarders affords you certain rights and freedoms. Sorry to hear you're sickened by the appreciation expressed by others, but there's no going back, we'll never return to the "state of nature". Of course, it could be worse, you could be living under some murderous regime. See, there's always a bright side to everything. I know, I know, that isn't a bright side. Whatever.

And yet the US thinks everyone in the world wants to live in their country? I think Canada may have the same relaxed attitude as Oz but to visit I would have to travel through the US and that is a headache I could do without.

We party better than any other Nation
I think the British will disagree with you there.

And the the French would disagree with you, but really, who cares. Enjoy the fried bread, lad. :p

How the hell do the French party better than the British?

They only riot in France, but wouldn't dare to do it anywhere else, but the British would have a few beers and then riot and trash the streets and buildings of ANY nation on the planet when we are in large groups.

Canada doesn't seem a BRILLIANT place to live in terms of how happy it makes you.

For example, Canadians do not seem to be as happy as the Americans and British - but they are happier than the French, who seem a miserable and depressed bunch of people. Here are the suicide rates of a few selected countries -

Male Suicide Rates Per 100,000 People

France - 26.1
Germany - 20.2
Canada - 19.5
United States - 17.6
Britain - 11.8

Female Suicide Rate Per 100,000 People

France - 9.4
Germany - 7.3
Canada - 5.1
United States - 4.1
Britain - 3.3

Rather that than McDonald's for breakfast, McDonald's for lunch, then McDonald's for supper then eat hotdogs - invented by an Englishman - whilst watching baseball, a game based on the English game of rounders which is played by English schoolgirls. It's no wonder the British are so much more healthier than Americans and Canadians.

Blackleaf, I am convinced they have you locked up in the London Tower with an internet hookup. They only let you out to celebrate the monarch's birthday. You are not much in touch with the rest of the world, the world beyond the "British Empire". There is alot more to a country than statistics and media play.
