I need a good video card..

What could be a good choice?? I need something not too expensive, let say max around 200$ plus taxes. This card has to be effective for gaming in the first place!

I have a P4 3.02 ghz
512 RAM(Will go to 1ghz soon)

I'd suggest an ATI card, those are tried and tested.

I have an ATI Radeon 7000 (which is pretty old now) which still plays all of the recent games great.

Right now I have a Radeon 9600 64 DDR, it is all right but some games like Doom 3 and Far Cry are demanding too much for that card. I'll have a look at the link you gave me Andem, thanks!

Are they really too demanding of that video card?? That's very surprising because I know the 9600 is fairly new and had good ratings... I would look at different aspects of your system before you jump to the conclusion that it's the video card... I play a lot of 3D games with my even old model (though it also has 64mb ddr).

try and check out www.nvidia.com they have some nice cards for your pc too

it is a race with nvidia and ati for the top spot so look there too.

Hi Andem, well to play doom 3 the minimum requirements are as follow:

P4 1.5Ghz CPU (or equivalent).
384MB of RAM.
64MB graphics card
2GB of free hard drive space.

The only thing I'm short is the video memory. I don't know if it makes a big difference but my 9600 is a Sapphire powered by Ati. Anyway I can play the game at lower res, I'll do some tests to see what are the best settings I can play with. Do you have any suggestions on what I could configure on my comp to improve performance?? Maybe there's something I didn't do that could help for gaming...

The game isn't that great... I guess whatever floats your boat as they say.

You can try getting a 9800 Pro with 128MB of Ram but that is certainly over $200. Just lower the effects and play

the 9800 pro in canada is like $450-$550...in some places...u get a free hat thow...

Try playing around with your DirectX, Direct3D and OpenGL settings in the ATI control panel. You might want to try and lower those settings to allow for faster play. Lower resolution should also do the trick.

I'll begin by trying different settings to get the maximum of my card. I'm not the type that absolutely needs the 750$ video card to play games, it's just that I happened to have played 2-3 games lately that seem to demand more than my card could accomplished.

I'm playing right now at 1024 x 768 but I have quality to low, I think, I have to check it. I'll keep you posted!
