Lacrosse is a 'pure' canadian game, invented by the first nations long ago.

New Westminster has had many very good lacrosse teams, and Jack Bionda was
one of canadas greatest players, probably about 40 years ago.
My husband played lacrosse, and was very good at it. My brother also played, he
was good, but got into too many fights, one has to be very disciplined to take a
bit of a beating in that game, without 'losing' it, it is rough and fast, played on
a wooden floor, similar to hockey, only 'running' and they use a stick with a pocket
in it to catch and throw the ball to each other, and a goalie just like hockey.
They call it 'the fastest game on two feet.'

Here's a video about lacrosse:

YouTube - Syracuse Lacrosse 2009 National Championship Music Video

Syracuse Orangemen have won the Championship 12 times though the 1990 win was vacated because those idiots in the NCAA felt Paul Gait was not eligible that year.

Our 1990 squad was the GREATEST team in USA college history. Our win for the title that year was so lopsided it was embarassing. There were players on the bench that could have been starters on any other team.

Gary Gait led Canada into a world championship win two years ago by converting several box (that is, indoor players) into field players. This is tantamount to turning baseball players into world champion cricket players. A feat that is virtually impossible.

By the way, during the championship when Syracuse appeared to be on the verge of getting beaten, me and my pals in the Syracuse chat room remained confident. Yes, we were down but in our hearts we knew we were going to win. As shown in that video, we won! The team and the fans enjoy a brotherhood that you just don't see in other teams and their fans. Next to the NY Yankees (baseball) and Giants (football) the Orange are my favorite team.

I'm really glad Kiwi posed a question about lacrosse. Having played a number of sports over my many years including baseball, softball, boxing, martial arts, cross country, volleyball, etc, and having done some free lance sports writing, I know my sports quite well. Over the years, Kiwiland's own rugby is the sport that brings its players closer together than any other. You will never see players who are more closer than brothers than among players in the sport of rugby. If I compiled a list of player brotherhood, lacrosse would have to come in second. That's how close the players become.

If I had to get stuck on a deserted island for a year and was restricted to watching only two sports, rugby and lacrosse would be my ideal choices.
