I'd say they're both kind of right; one extreme feeds the other. Banning books, for example, will go unnoticed when people are so distracted by being overfed meaningless trivialities.
En masse? No one that I'm aware of. Does it need to be currently occurring somewhere in order for the statements as illustrated to have a ring of truth to them?
Schools and libraries due to wacked public pressure from those that yell the loudest. The Catcher in the Rye, a classic was pulled from one school.
A great novel. I read it at a young age myself.
