Powdered wine? Never seen that, and wouldn't touch it if I did. The kits I buy come with a big plastic bag of juice concentrate and assorted additives. I've never had a hangover from my homemade stuff.

I find the kits tend to smell WONDERful.... and taste either like water or just plain foul. And the hangover from powdered wine kit reds seems to be one of THE most hellish things a person could expirience. And you don't even need to actually get drunk to have the hangover. Lovely.

I also make at least some of my own wine from a kit. I tend to buy the middle quality kits and have never had a dud. Don't think I've ever seen a powdered wine kit......sounds bad. The only bad experience I've had was making wine from the raw grapes. It was messy, and somewhere along the way we picked up a vinegar spore and the wine was ruined.

I've seen one kit that used powder, and made the assumption of all the rest. I've been given so many homemade wines from so many people, and all seem to have the same issues. They might smell good, but they tend to be thin and unpleasant. Like I said though, that's the reds I've tried. I've had some half decent whites that were homemade. Some decent icewines.

I think you've been given wine by people who don't know how to make it properly. "Thin and unpleasant" usually means it isn't old enough, or they did something really dumb like forgetting a key ingredient or not keeping things clean.

I've considered researching it and giving it a go to see if you're right Dex.

But then, I'm the type who'd prefer to do dandelion or saskatoon wine, despite the work.

The go-to drink.

We used that stuff to lubricate girls back in the mid seventies.
Lol, I was one of those girls. Thing is, I got sick BEFORE I got that drunk. ;)

Many didn't though. Oh, the stories we could tell huh?

If I am in need to budget wines, I usually brew something up in my bathtub... it's not too bad.

Seriously though, my taste buds are rather under developed when it's comes to wine tasting. $12 wine tastes the same as $60 wine to me.

I used to work for a beer and wine distributor. I know the guy that popularized Baby Duck, or at least was part of the marketing effort. They used to go and hand it out to the homeless winos.

True story.

I'm pretty sure they don't do that anymore

:) I'm pretty sure they don't either. But it did make me lol. I bet that is why it was one of the most popular wines of the time. That and of course the fact that kids could stomach it enough to get high on. :eek:ccasion7: Can't say I wasn't happy about it's existence. Even though it came out of my nose more often than I would care to think.

Handing it out to the homeless winos. Don't know if that is funny/compassionate, or sad/unethical. Either way... it is interesting.
