Support staff at post offices across the country walked off the job Monday, although Canada Post says customers should see no disruption in delivery.

About 2,400 members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada launched a strike early Monday, three days after PSAC served formal notice to the Crown corporation.

PSAC represents workers who handle clerical, financial, engineering and administrative work.

The union said 88 per cent of its members voted in favour of the strike, largely because of opposition to proposals on short-term disability and sick leave.

I can do nearly everything online - or make a phone call. Canada Post carries too much dead weight in people on payroll but not on the job.

I still get paper utility bills, but I'm quite capable of wandering down and getting a total when
I'm actually paying my bills. A Canada Post strike wouldn't bother me in the least.

I'm kind of surprised that it's happening now and not closer to Christmas though...could the
timing have something to do with the fact that (for those with kids that still receive a cheque)
it's just before the Nov 20th Baby-Bonus....and then Dec 10th Baby-Bonus??? The bargaining
chip would be the poor families with young children then...great way to gather the respect &
sympathy of the Public (who pay their wages through our tax's) for Canada Post....not.
