Politically its better that the NDP and Liberals stay as two separate parties. It helps the conservatives split the left vote. Don't be surprised to see Harper throw ol' Jack a bone every now and then. As long as Jack can crow about how effective the NDP is as the protector of Healthcare, Flowers, small children, anything they will siphon votes off from the Liberals.
