How Long Before Women Are Considered Equal

Equality of women will never become a reality as long as you have religious freedoms.

If you look at the Canadian Bill of Rights or the American Constitution it has equality for all and religious freedoms which cancels the equality of women out of the equation.

Years ago in America there was a highly controversial bill called the Equal Rights Amendment that if passed would have given woman total equal rights but the religious organizations fought it with all its might because if the amendment would have passed then women could demand to become priests in religions that don’t allow women in the priesthood.

Leaders of big corporations are religious so promoting women to high positions has been slow.

Women have proven that they are able to do the job as well or better than men

The bill did not pass and now you have inequality of women.

The women have to go through the court system and gain support from the community to gain their equality like the gays in their fight for equality because governments have been slow to recognize their rights.

Due to the court challenges the gays were successful to make same sex marriage a reality.

The current Conservative government ran on the platform of changing the same sex marriage law to civil union but have backed off on that promise because the courts and the laws will never support that.

In Afghanistan the religious clerics view women as cattle to bear children, do most of the work and be hoors to their husbands and “gee I got a headache” will not cancel forced rape and if they are good maybe the husbands will write them a note so they can dawn their newly sewn burkas and go out and enjoy life for a little while.

If women want true equality then they have to leave their religions that discriminate against women and go to the religions that don’t discriminate and since there is only one God it’s not hard to do.

This means a lot of sacrifices and ridicule for basic human rights.

It’s up to the women will they just settle for status quo or are they ready to fight for their rights?

Time will tell

Absolutely! I applaud this position! And the sooner women realize that they are not second-rate, the better!

The reason why China is kicking our asses economically and in exports is because women work the same jobs as men

If women want those cushy CEO jobs held by the old boys club the rest of them are going to have to pick up shovels, hammers and various other tools and get some calluses.

Good grief. :D

China is kicking ass because their population is reasonably educated and have been able to take full advantage of things like 'technology transfer' and "leapfrogging technologies' since they scrapped their self-isolationist policies. Women work in factories producing goods for export in Mexico, too.

Re #26.

It would be beneath me and beneath anyone to quote you.

Are you REALLY rolling on the floor?

Have you laughed your a$$ off? If so, how will you have your next BM? Through your mouth?

Could you be any more lazy and slothish than dispatching an eight-letter piece of rubbish to infect the internet?

Personally I'd rather see women do what nature intended and that is to be the best mom possible with the full support of the dad and the community. There is absolutely nothing better for a nation than a strong family unit.

I could be mistaken, but from what I gathered of Vereya's post was that she was talking about people(whether they be male or female) that stay home because they don't want to work(such as Welfare Bums...people that can get a job, but choose not to and prefer to sponge off the taxpayers.) rather than a man or woman that stays at home to raise a family.

The person that stays at home to raise a family is just as important as a person working at their job. Make no mistake, raising a family is a job! Just ask my mom! LOL!;-)

I am not even going to try to explain my position to someone with this kind of attitude.

Women will be equal when they say so.!lol..I know 1 thing 4 sure..It's not up to men to decide...However , women will never be truly equal because they are different..

We should never lower the bar but must be careful to duck under it.. if we can't get over it..

I am a single father who was cheated on ..So I don't think I should respond any further on this subject...I will say, I love strong women who earned everything they have and live for more than the $$$$...

I don't like those who exploit weaknesses or inequalities as an excuse for under achieving....Not refering to any 1 labelled group in particular...

In our country I believe women have many opportunities..We all do and should count ourselves lucky...No matter who you are or what you look like..

As far as the Hockey Hall of Fame, women have played hockey, what, 20 years at the most? Suddenly should there be same number of women in the Hockey Hall of Fame as men?

No but when it comes to deciding who gets in, it should be about what they have done for the game...not the NHL. Haley has done as much for the game over the last few years than any guy and having a separate category for her diminishes that.
