The then government of Afghanistan was harboring the terrorist organization that was responsible for 9/11 and refused to extradite them.

Even the conservative YAL doesn't buy into the notion that the war is justifiable because of the actions of a group of people who were at one time financed by the same political party who caused the war today:

Make the Right Choice, Mr. President | Young Americans for Liberty

Just rephrase what you said: "How many Yanks were killed or threatened by either the people or government of that country?" How many Yanks were killed or threatened by people trained in that country? That country as you refer to them allowed 9/11 to happen. I'm sure you have many ideas as to why not, but what you think about 9/11 is not important. The right choice was made. Just not when to extricate ourselves.

That's all well and good, but Bush didn't cause the war.

The war was caused by a direct attack on US soil.

You can try and spin the fact that at one point, Osama was a CIA bag man all you want. But the fact is, just because a son turns on the parents that made him, doesn't make the parents the cause.

The attack on the US was formulated in Afghanistan, the perpetrators protected and funded by the Gov't of said country. Then allowed to act out side that countries boarders, then refused to hand the perpetrators over. Thus making them culpable.

The alternative is, the Taliban simply allowed them to concoct their plan, within their borders. When the plan came to fruition outside their borders, that made Afghanistan a failed state.

In either scenario, the outcome is invasion. Either for retaliation for said attack, or to secure a failed state.

The point being, no one wanted this war, but this world is not all nice and rosy as we all would like. Things happen and sometimes we all have to do something we do not necessarily like. When the time came to lay down my life for my Family or my Country, I did not cower from that responsibility, I welcomed it.

Freedom is not free - It is paid for with the blood of our men & women serving in harms way.

What is said above can be said of any war. There can only be one outcome, we cannot lose.

''The right choice was made. Just not when to extricate ourselves.''

63% of the US populace says it is a waste. Therefore, the time to get out is now since nothing further (other than war further war profiteering) is being gained by continuing it. If the invasion was so great because it imposed majority rule (even though it actually didn't) then the majority will should rule stateside by ending that war.

Were supposed to have most of the troops out by July, as long as there is no Taliban stupidity that could happen and for the most part they will be done with us. There will be a few thousand left behind for training and police work though.

The war on Afghanistan is hopelessly lost and a 63% American majority oppose it. The only reason why it continues is because people are profiting from it.

Imo the only reason the war in Afghanistan is continuing is because Barack Obama is unwilling to take the political heat that would ensue from withdrawing from a war he himself does not believe in. Obama is sending men and women to fight and all too often die in vain. About 1,800 Americans have died in Afghanistan, plus tens of thousands maimed, all for nothing.

The war is to weaken and defeat western democracy and ensure perpetual lucrative conflict. The legislation enacted in the west since 9/11 is the purpose, all else is the propaganda ministries disinfo. There can be no doubt that war is the main economic engine of the west. You better hope that we do not ever win because you and I would instantly become war surplus material. It is not the citizens war for survival. Welcome to the global financial elite security complex. Barack Obama was cultivated in a think tank lab. He's a brand name consumer product.
