It really pi$$ed me off that not one of the so-called officials noticed that Luongo was having trouble after getting jabbed in the throat with a stick. It was clear what happened on the replay. There should have been a penalty and a suspension.

Yes he was hit but the Drama Queen Act didn't go over too well-he tried to sell it but he tried too hard.

There was no doubt that he was struck in the throat. It must not have been pleasant. Earlier in the game one of the Boston players ran
Luongo into the back of the net. He didn't complain though he did look at the ref. I sure wouldn't call him a "drama queen". How do you hit someone in the throat lightly, by jabbing himwith a hockey stick?

You are right, there, #Juan, although I didn't find the previous post worthy of comment. With some it seems he can't do anything right.

He actually fell backward throwing up both arms when the stick made contact-in direct contrast to his being struck hard by the puck earlier in the game when he fell forward-more and more hockey is becoming like soccer where players act like sniveling suckholes trying to draw a penalty-makes me sick.

one can be struck very lightly in the eye area, and react in a panicky manner, a very sensitive area, especially with a
sharp edge of something, it all depends where and with 'what' you are being struck with.
anything near the eye is very scary immediately.

it isn't fair to assume he was acting, and if they are acting you will see a definite pause before
the acting starts, do you think that pause was there?

I've seen the exactly same motions from him in the past-resulting from very different actions.

Humans are predicable-we repeat ourselves-and Luongo is no different.

put yourself in the position of being struck in the neck/face/eye area by a stick, you didn't see
coming, and imagine what your reaction would be.

could you stand there and decide if you are going to 'fake' it, and then decide 'yes', or 'no' before
falling down or not?
the sensitivity of those areas, cause any of us to react big time, as we feel such pain and worry
from that contact.
i remember when my oldest daughter was struck in the throat from a tip ball.
she was a catcher in a very high level of fast pitch ball, and the scariness
at that moment is intense, the first reaction is one of trying to breath.
that is the first thought when being hit in that area, as the breathing
is tampered with, sometimes for a hundreth of a second, and sometimes longer.
my daughter was knocked backwards, grabbed her throat, and struggled
trying to get her breath, took a few seconds, a bit of coughing and
lots of help, then she was fine.

we must respect any of these athletes who stand in there and risk their
bodies for the 'game'.

Not if they are known fakers-and there are more & more & more of them every season.

I think everyone on the forum is aware of your low opinion of Luongo, Bill, and perhaps others agree with you, but you really should give it up, you've made your point and it's probably not the majority.............he's won his share of games for the team, you should let it go at that. -:)

its so easy to sit back in our soft chairs, with our coffee in hand, feet up, then criticize and make fun
of athletes who are actually very brave, will face many obstacles none of us would even think of attempting,
and it all seems so easy from our livingrooms.

goalies are run all the time, without any calls from officials, they get knocked all over the place,
without being ready as they have to focus on the puck at all times, they should re act any time they
feel they have been illegally hit, but most of the time i notice luongo just gather himself together, get up
brush himself off, and get ready for face off, or the continuation of play.

CANUCKS (20-10-5) at WILD (19-11-5)

TV: SNET-P, FS-N

Last 10: Vancouver 8-1-1; Minnesota 4-5-1

Season series: This is the first of three games between these one-time Northwest Division rivals. The Vancouver Canucks won the first two games in 2012-13, but the Minnesota Wild evened the series with a home-and-home sweep in March.

Big story: The state of hockey will entertain the NHL's hottest team when Vancouver travels to Minnesota. The Canucks are undefeated in December, running their streak to seven straight wins with a 6-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.

Xcel Energy Center is no easy place to play, though, and the Wild (13-2-2 at home) are looking to win their fourth straight on home ice.

Team scope:

Canucks: Vancouver's recent run is due largely to a stingy defense. The Canucks have allowed eight goals in seven games and improved their League-best penalty kill to 90.2 percent by killing all 20 penalties faced over that stretch. Goaltenders Eddie Lack and Roberto Luongo reeled off back-to-back shutouts this past week, against the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers.

Saturday against Boston, which marked the Bruins' first trip to Rogers Arena since Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, proved the Canucks are not content to rest on these accomplishments. After Jannik Hansen gave Vancouver an early lead, Boston tied the game 1-1 early in the second. An irate John Tortorella called a timeout and tore into his team. The Canucks responded, maybe more to their coach than the opposition, with five straight goals. The Bruins didn't scratch the score sheet again until the game was well out of reach.

"That was 10 out of 10," forward David Booth said. "He was fired up there and it got the guys going. We're professionals. Sometimes you don't need it and sometimes you do. That was a turning point for us and changed the outcome."

Wild: If Minnesota hopes to challenge Vancouver, the Wild must get their offense back on track. The Wild scored three regulation goals on a recent three-game road trip, dropping the first two games to the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

In Minnesota's final game, however, the defense earned its top-five League rankings for shots-allowed and goals-allowed per game, holding the Colorado Avalanche to just one goal on 27 shots. Nino Niederreiter scored to tie it with 3:53 left in regulation, and the Wild prevailed in the shootout.

"Sometimes you hit those streaks where you don't get that offense as much," forward Mikko Koivu said. "A lot of times that happens on the road. Obviously we played some good teams. Tonight one goal and the shootout got us the win. We just have to stick with it."

Who's hot: Luongo is 5-0-0 with a 1.19 goals-against average during the streak. He has three shutouts in his past six starts against Minnesota. … Despite the recent hiccups, the Wild are still led from the back. Josh Harding has won four of five and leads the League with a 1.49 goals-against average.

Injury report: For Vancouver, forward Jordan Schroeder (sprained ankle), wing Alexandre Burrows (broken jaw) and defenseman Alexander Edler (lower body) are on injured reserve. … Minnesota center Mikael Granlund (concussion) has been on injured reserve since Nov. 27, but he practiced with the team Monday and will join them on their eastern road trip later this week.

How does a goaltender fake it? From the shots taken, the goalie stops what he can. The ones he can't stop or deflect, are goals. Luongo has an admirable record. He could get a job with virtually any team in the NHL. But he can't complain about a deliberate jab in the throat with a hockey stick or he will suffer the rath of Barilko who has likely seen several hockey games to make himself a self-styled expert....

Yes it must hurt to see your idol acting like such a cheap punk-Luongo has actually played quite well this season to date but a faker never changes his act as we saw last game and will continue to see in games to come.

I haven't had an idol since I was a kid. I was a big Toronto fan, and I thought Frank Mahovlich could do no wrong. Big Frank had his faults
but at eight years old I could look past them. Luongo works hard every game. Most often he wins. A goalie's game is determined to some extent by how well the defense plays.

If they can keep this pace up they should have the President's trophy clinched early in January.

and your opinion, 'how' should he react when jabbed in the throat with a stick? or i guess in your
opinion he wasn't jabbed at all, just made it up?

I think Minnesota deserved the win, Canucks should have had them put away while they had the momentum in the early going. Basically a very close well played game. Just need another goal or two from the "big guns". Luongo can only stop so many!
