Tortorella's face after the second Columbus goal told the story-the Canucks won the game but have a long long way to go.

Too easily cooped up in their own end and too easy to fall apart for no apparent reason.

The victory looks good on paper but as mentioned upthread the test will come tomorrow.

Happy to see Stanton showing some promise-Good Bye B**th.

yep chicago were all watching this one tonight, resting up in vancouver for tomorrows game.

the only way booth will play again is, if the team loses a bunch, or if there is an injury which
forces torterella to play him, but I suppose along the way somewhere, torts might get curious
to see him again, just in case he has turned into the great one, one never knows. lol

or maybe one can just call him 'the great bear hunter', when he sits up in a tree stand,
after loading up a barrel full of bait, and waits for the bear to stand at the barrel,
then shoots him dead, don't know how the word 'hunt' and 'bear baiting' can be used in
the same sentence, all it is is target shooting.

Blackhawks continue long trip vs. CanucksFriday, 11.22.2013 / 11:11

PrintBLACKHAWKS (15-4-4) at CANUCKS (12-8-4)

TV: NHLN-US; CBC, WGN

Last 10: Chicago 7-2-1; Vancouver 3-4-3

Season series: The Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks get together for the first of three times this season. Vancouver won two of three games last season; both of the wins came at Rogers Arena.

Big story: The Blackhawks "Circus Trip" makes its third stop when the defending Stanley Cup champs come to the Pacific Northwest. They've split the first two games on the seven-game expedition, bouncing back from a 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche by beating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 on Thursday. The Canucks ended a five-game losing streak and broke out of an offensive slump by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-2 at home Friday night.

Team Scope:

Blackhawks: If there were ever any doubt about Marian Hossa's value, his performance Thursday night ended it.

Hossa returned against the Jets after missing three games with a lower-body injury and contributed at both ends of the ice. He had an assist and the go-ahead goal, but also contributed three takeaways as the Blackhawks shut down the Jets in the third period.

"His instincts with how we have to play our system [fit[ to a T," coach Joel Quenneville said Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune. "His backside pressure is as good as anybody in the game. He goes up the ice defensively as quickly as he goes up with the puck. It's a nice trait, and it really reinforces how we have to play to be successful."

Canucks: After five losses in which the Canucks scored all of six goals, the dam burst in the second period against Columbus. Three goals in a span of 2:10 in the second period turned a 1-1 nail biter into a 4-1 game that let the Canucks breathe a little easier. Zack Kassian, Henrik Sedin and Alexander Edler scored to give Roberto Luongo (14 saves) a rare cushion.

"We needed to get the puck to the net and keep shooting and we did that," Kassian said. "We played well, we hadn't scored a lot, so it feels good."

Who's hot: Chicago's Patrick Kane is riding a nine-game points streak during which he has five goals and eight assists. … Henrik Sedin had two goals and Daniel Sedin scored once and had two assists against Columbus.

Injury report: Chicago is without forward Bryan Bickell (lower body), who was injured in Colorado and is expected to miss at least two weeks. Goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin (lower body) and center Michal Handzus (upper body) are on injured reserve. … Vancouver is still without forward Jordan Schroeder (ankle).

--------------------------------------------

i hope chicago come to play and play their best, as this will test the canucks well.

love watching chicago play, so many high end players, but they can also lay an egg every once
in a while, hopefully not tonight, if canucks can beat them, when the hawks are playing their best,
then there is some hope for them to finish out the year respectfully, as it will show they can
rise to the occasion when needed the most, and show torterella that they need to do that on a
more consistent basis.

By the end of the first period, you have to be careful not to under rate them!

That might be a bit optimistic but I'll never say it. The Canucks have come through a hard patch but If they can bounce back against Chicago, I might become a believer again. No guarantees, Luongo might stand on his head and stop everything....We'll see....

what a good hockey game, no complaints at all, I saw what I was hoping to see, canucks deserved
a better outcome, they are a bit snakebitten lately, but give credit to crawford too, he played
great to keep his team in the lead.

they came to play, both teams, and play they did.

I agree whole heartedly, except for a 9 second lapse, both teams were pretty even.

Canucks seek offense against KingsMonday, 11.25.2013 / 12:34 PMBrian Compton - NHL.com

PrintKINGS (15-6-3) at CANUCKS (12-9-4)

TV: FS-W, SNET-P

Last 10: Los Angeles 6-1-3; Vancouver 3-4-3

Season series: This is the second of five meetings between the Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks. The Kings cruised to a 5-1 victory against the Canucks on Nov. 9 at Staples Center.

Big story: Los Angeles is winless in its past two games, but it has earned at least one point in nine straight (6-0-3) despite the loss of No. 1 goaltender Jonathan Quick, who is out with a groin injury. Vancouver, meanwhile, has won once in its past seven games (1-4-2). The Canucks have scored more than two goals once in that span.

Team Scope:

Kings: Los Angeles received another solid performance from goalie Ben Scrivens (32 saves), but the Kings lost their second in a row when Jamie McGinn scored 2:32 into overtime to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 1-0 victory at Staples Center. Los Angeles was awarded four power plays in the game, but mustered 19 shots against Colorado goalie Semyon Varlamov.

"We had a pretty good first period," Kings forward Anze Kopitar said. "In the second period, we got outplayed. The third period was back and forth. We were good on the penalty kill, and have to create a bit more on the power play. In overtime, it was just a tough bounce."

Canucks: Vancouver's offense continues to struggle. The Canucks have scored 65 goals in 25 games and only scored during a two-man advantage in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at Rogers Arena on Saturday. Corey Crawford stopped 36 of 37 shots for the Blackhawks, who scored two goals in nine seconds early in the third period to erase Vancouver's 1-0 lead.

"We beat ourselves, and teams like Chicago will capitalize," Canucks coach John Tortorella said. "We kill a penalty, we get our guy on the ice and we throw the puck away [and it] ends up in our net. We run how we forecheck off a faceoff every time, [but] we decide to go off the map and we give up an odd-man rush [and] it's in our net. We played a good hockey game, but we beat ourselves in those few seconds."

Who's hot: Scrivens hasn't allowed more than two goals in his past six starts. He has a 1.15 goals-against average and .955 save percentage over that span. … Canucks forward Ryan Kesler has a goal and two assists in his past four games.

Injury report: Los Angeles could get forward Jeff Carter (foot) back Monday. He's expected to take the pre-game skate. Besides Quick, the Kings are also expected to be without defenseman Matt Greene (upper body) and forward Trevor Lewis (lower body). … Vancouver will be without forward Jordan Schroeder (ankle).

l.a. have a big tough team, and seem to be tougher when they play canucks, hope canucks are ready
for that.

booth back in the lineup tonight, maybe kassian is out, don't really know, as he made two dumb mistakes
last game, I like him but see that he is a slow maturing big guy, so I guess the great plays he does
make does show he has potential, but patience is needed for this guy, not sure if canucks have that,
hope so.

luongo in tonight again, I hear.

canucks played well tonight, again. two obvious errors caused 2nd and over time goals, both defense.

2nd goal, both defensemen left luongo and dissapeared to the corner, and overtime, bieksa took his

eye off the puck for a hundreth of a second, and overskated it. two errors caused 2 goals, thats

the story tonight, and also the power play struggled, but they did score 'one' power play goal, so

all was not lost.

the have come out on the short end again, very dissapointing for the boys, for sure, they fought and

struggled and played hard tonight, only to come out with one point against a division rival, where

the points are so important.

they are off to ottawa now, for a game on thursday.

we cannot whine and complain that our team is not trying, or playing hard, things just aren't happening

for them right now, that must be very frustrating as a player, but I know they will never lay down

and whine, so I won't either, look ahead, play hard again, and win the next one.

canucks are in tough this year, it is a battle, and all of the teams are capable and ready to win any game.

one bright note for me -- david booth looked better.

The Canucks got pretty much what they deserved tonight and I'm not sure they deserved that. The TV people made Bieksa the goat on that final goal and I can't argue too much. Other than the Sedins, Vancouver didn't play like they wanted to win.

lol - you take losing extremely hard juan, it blinds you to what actually took place in a game.

Yep, but you can't blame him, we are steeped in a system where winning is everything, losing coaches get fired and losing players get traded and losing teams stand a chance of going belly up. -:)

Of course none of the goals are Luongo's fault. They never are. Just once though it would be nice to see him win them a game. Is that too much to ask from a guy who thinks he should start for Team Canada? Or does he need more coddling?

Wasn't it fairly recently that he thumped Columbus?

Poppycock!
Any time now the sports writers will be trying to tell us that the Canucks are a contender. rah rah...go Canucks go.....At the moment the Canucks are not a contender. In their last ten games they have 4 losses, 2 wins, and 4 ot ties. What actually took place was that the Canucks couldn't hang on to a one goal lead and they dropped another one. NHL hockey is high priced entertainment. The Canucks don't owe me anything. I don't buy season tickets......Thank God... By the same token, I don't owe them anything either. Torts tells us that he doesn't worry about what other teams are doing.....maybe that is the problem...

Every team in the league (with the possible exception of the Oilers about 1985) goes through this, #Juan. No one is exempt from a losing streak (more than likely 2 or 3 in a year). Be ready for a couple more losses as they are heading out on a road trip.

JLM, I coached minor hockey for a lot of years...as high as Junior B.... I know what losing streaks are. The Canuck's losing streak will likely continue until Torts finds a good line combination and leaves them alone for a few games. They won't improve unless you let them play together for a while. .
