New Jersey played @ the top of their game-such as it is.

Couldn't believe all the empty seats in that arena I guess the attendance issues just aren't in the Sun Belt.

the surprising thing was that schneider let in two ugly goals, totally his fault, very unlike his usual
efficient play in goal.

When I looked at the schedule today I noticed there were seats there for $5! If you want to fly down to Florida tomorrow you can snag some $5 seats to watch an exciting game against Buffalo. -:)

I didn't see the game but Tortorella said he wouldn't have paid for a minute of it, although he was happy to get 2 points.

schneider was not good at all, luongo was great, and the team was very tired, but if it wasn't
for schneider's boo boos, n.j. would have won the game. thats the way she goes sometimes, take
the 2 pts and run.

Canucks face Blues to end seven-game tripThursday, 10.24.2013 / 11:53

5:00 p.m. in st. louis

PMJohn Kreiser - NHL.com Columnist
TV: SNET-P; FS-MW

Last 10: Vancouver 6-3-1

Season series: It's the first of three meetings this season between the Vancouver Canucks and St. Louis Blues, and the only one at Scottrade Center. St. Louis won twice in shootouts last season, with the Canucks taking the only game decided in 60 minutes.

Big story: Vancouver's seven-game trip comes to an end with a huge challenge: The Canucks are playing back-to-back games against a team that's at home and has had a week off. Vancouver comes to St. Louis with a 4-1-1 mark on the trip after a 3-2 shootout victory against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver is piling up points on its trip despite losing players. The Canucks beat the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime Tuesday despite losing center Jannik Hansen with an upper-body injury. They topped the Devils even though David Booth and Dale Weise left with lower-body injuries.

But the Canucks still had Roberto Luongo, who stopped all 17 shots he faced in the third period and denied New Jersey's three attempts in the shootout for the win.

"It's probably his best period (this season)," coach John Tortorella said of Luongo's third-period heroics. "He's still trying to get his game to where he wants it, but he was outstanding and certainly gave us a chance to get the point and also earned us the second one."

Blues: A 4-3 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Jets last Friday is a distant memory for a team that hasn't played in a week. The Blues headed off to Charleston, S.C., for a four-day team-bonding trip while practicing at the Carolina Ice Palace. They continued working out after returning to St. Louis, but as center Derek Roy told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "It's hard to get the battle drills that you'll get in a game. We tried our best this week to work hard and make sure our battle level stayed high."

St. Louis is 1-1-1 in its past three games after a 4-0-0 start; the Blues have allowed 11 goals in those three games after surrendering seven in the four wins.

Who's hot: Luongo is 4-0-1 on the trip, though he may sit in favor of Eddie Lack because the Canucks are playing on back-to-back nights. Luongo is 10-5-1 lifetime against the Blues. … Alexander Steen has seven goals in the Blues' seven games and David Backes has six; the rest of the team has 13.

Injury report: With Hansen, Weise and Booth all sidelined, Vancouver recalled center Pascal Pelletier and winger Darren Archibald from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. Vancouver was already without forwards Alexandre Burrows (foot) and Jordan Schroeder (ankle). … The Blues report no injuries, but they'll be without forward Maxim Lapierre, who's sitting out a five-game suspension for a hit on Dan Boyle of the San Jose Sharks 10 days ago.

Good ending to a very nerve wracking hockey game, after the 19 minute mark in the 2nd, but the boys managed to pull it off (I could have strangled Bieksa, but I guess that sh*t happens) I thought Lack was outstanding along with Kesler. -:)

The points summary looks good until you notice the Canucks have played more games than every other team in the league, now if every other team can lose 4 straight games the Canucks will look very good. -:)

I like kesler with the twins, and I like him on the wing and not centering, but when burrows comes
back there might be a change, don't know. But kesler has looked better and better with each game
of late.

the new call-ups really helped, with fresh legs, and lack played great.
the fourth line contributed a lot tonight, and got pretty good ice time
for their efforts.

the penalties really hurt, made the rest of the game very hard.

I know st louis has had lots of time off, but sometimes that can backfire and make the team
a bit stale, so st. louis didn't look all that powerful tonight.

canucks on this trip have really come together, they are supporting each other very well, playing a
good team game, and playing good defense as a team.
they don't look like world beaters, but they are getting better, hope it continues.
henrik is leading this time 'big time', he is awsome.

david booth hurt again, I give up with this guy, I kind of hope he is out for the season, then they
can take his 4.5 mill contract off of the cap, put him on long term disability, and go get another
player in a trade, as long as gillis does screw it up by taking someone off of the team,
and trading them away when he shouldn't.
And don't trade away next years first round draft pick.

they finally can come home, then play washington on monday, and burrows will be back.

canucks 3 - blues 2 in OT

The difference between St Louis and NJ was certainly glaring this was a hockey game to watch & enjoy not endure.

yes, st. louis has a very strong well coached team, good players and they play to win and know that
they are one of the top teams in the NHL, and they play with a purpose, and they were very pissed
after this game.

Hey Talloola, if the Canucks win a couple more games and San Jose loses a couple, the Canucks will be contenders in your book.....just kidding. They've had a pretty decent road trip but there are no guarantees....

yeah, that could happen, lets see how it goes, canucks definitely took an upturn during that road trip after the first two games, they began coming together, although they should have lost to new jersey,
and we can thank cory schneider for that one, but kidding aside, the next few weeks will be interesting
for sure, to see if this upturn is for real or not.

however it goes its fun to watch.

I can't help feeling that at least part of their upturn is related to Kesler. Adding a bit of aggression and scoring touch that was, heretofore, luke warm at best......but, who knows?

And when Burrows returns there will likely not be a team that can touch them! -:)

Booth injured yet again-time for a buy out?

yeah, they have one more buyout, but not till the end of the season.

hope he is out for the season, then they will have his 4.5 mil 'off' of the cap and
they can search for a good player by trade, (if they do it right).

he was a 'healthy scratch', guess he wanted to be an 'unhealthy scratch'. lol

And when Burrows returns there will likely not be a team that can touch them! -:)

oh boy, aren't you a corker. lol

I wonder exactly what is wrong with hanson, and how long he will be out.

It never hurts to dream. Twice they've played the 7th game of round 4 and they say things come in 3s. -:)

I don't know about that, but Kesler is capable of forty or fifty goals a year. The Canucks could use that kind of goal output. Burrows will also help but as Talloola says, it will take a while for him to get to 100 percent. Vancouver is a team that, with everyone playing their best game, they won't be easy to beat.

I like the way torterella changes lines around according to 'how' people are playing, or how the game
is going, keeps them all on their toes, as they know as soon as he notices them sluffing or doing
dumb things they will be 'riding the pine', sitting booth out sent a message to all of them.

a definite difference in kesler's game since he was put with the twins.

Torts is also good at playing games with the other coach. If the other team wants to match a checking line against the Sedins then that checking line will be playing half the game.
