You never heard anything of a more personal nature re Schneider vs. Kesler?

no, not at all, and whatever that story might be, it will be untrue. all along it was becoming
apparent that gillis had a big problem because he couldn't find a taker for luongo, that is what
makes sense to me.
in one of my posts with kreskin quite a while back, we both agreed that it might be 'schneider' who has to be traded
in the end, as one of them had to go, they could not keep both of them for reasons of money and
also for reasons of #1 goalie, and luongo was not going to be a back up, that would not have
fit into his hockey plans at all, so keeping him, and having him as #1 would work, so it was done.

schneider and kesler were both at home all summer, and they don't live anywhere near each other,
one in michigan, the other in boston, so they had no direct contact, there can't be any
reliable personal story about the two of them.
schneider was married in the early summer, so his time was totally taken up with those plans,
and he and his girlfriend had been together for a long time in vancouver.

Yeah, I heard some gossip today from several sources, but I guess that's all it was! -:)

not sure of playoff rules at this point, i'm sure its written somewhere.

Sounds like three teams from each division and (possibly) 4 wild cards.

The NHL will be realigning for the 2013-14 regular season. With that change comes an adjustment to the
postseason format.

Tweet (14)Share (42)14 Comments The 2013-14 NHL regular season will feature a division realignment that will split the Eastern Conference into two eight-team divisions and the Western Conference into two seven-team divisions. This brought about a rebranding of the groupings, which will amount to an Atlantic, Central, Pacific and Metropolitan division.

In turn, the league will reconfigure its playoff formatting as well. Under this new system, the top three teams in each division will earn an automatic bid to the postseason. Each conference will be allotted two wild card playoff spots, which will be distributed to the two teams who had the highest point totals amongst non-playoff qualifying teams, regardless of division. The wild card teams will be matched against the teams with the highest points.

This will result in the following formatting per conference:

Atlantic Division

*No. 1 seed in division vs. Wild Card team
*No. 2 seed in division vs. No. 3 seed in division

Metropolitan Division

*No. 1 seed in division vs. Wild Card team
*No. 2 seed in division vs. No. 3 seed in division

The winners of those series will face each other for the division championship. The two division champions will then compete for the conference championship and the right to battle for the Stanley Cup against the winner of the opposing conference.

The 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 16.

Not sure how the Canucks will finish but I think as time goes on, and they get their heads around the Tortorella system, they will be a tough team to play against. Might be tight on offense for awhile though.

yes, they have some work to do, but I allready like the compete level, energy and all round quickness on
their feet, but it is a long season, and I hope torts paces them well, so that they can play just as well
towards the end of the season, without too many injuries and fatigue.
a team can't play playoff type hockey all year, its impossible, and it showed on his previous team.

And for the Western Conference?

i assume its the same, not sure why they didn't include them. the eastern divisions have one less
team than the western, don't know if that makes playoffs any different or not, haven't looked into
that aspect of it.

True, but a team game can take less energy than a direction-less squad where everyone tries to do their job and the job next to them.

thats true, I just don't want to see him snapping the whip at full speed all the time, or it will all backfire on him.
i'm sure he knows that, he is a good coach, and I like what he has done so far, the change in where
forwards position themselves in their own end, give the centerman more freedom to go in and help out
instead of staying further up in the zone, but comsequently that is why there is more shot blocking
because opposition defencemen have more room to move around, but the work down low on the boards is
much better, puck can be recovered quicker, and up the ice they go.

the players seem very happy and energized with him there.

Yep, I guess so, so it will end up being 16 teams in the playoffs 8 from each conference, same as before, just the divisions may be more even.

I see regular season is starting quite a bit earlier this year. Hopefully it makes the season a little more relaxed like fewer of these 3 games in 4 nights!

Looks like the Canucks are getting a full week off over Xmas! Good for the team, maybe not so much for the fans.

yes, that is good.

I see both of the young fellas have been sent back to juniors now, thats
good, they don't need to stay at 18, give them another year or even two
or three, bring them up when they are ready.

gillis has three new players in the last couple of days, two in a trade
with carolina, and one off of waivers from chicago.
they own 'all' of the new york ahl team, so they now have a good supply
of players to develope and call on now and then, or bring up to stay
if required, lots of defencemen, so they won't be left shorthanded
because of injuries.
i'm sure frankie corado will be a permanent canuck soon, either sometime
this season or next, he is a good one, but some time in the ahl will
help him.

Canucks open John Tortorella era in San JoseWednesday, 10.02.2013 / 5:10 PMMatthew Mankiewich - NHL.com Staff
PrintCANUCKS (0-0-0) at SHARKS (0-0-0)

TV: TSN, CSN-CA

Season series: The San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks will meet four times over the course of the season as their rivalry is preserved in the new Pacific Division. But it was the last four times they met, a four-game sweep by the Sharks in the opening round of last year's Stanley Cup playoffs, that sticks in the collective craw of the Canucks,.

Big Story: Both teams are looking to take a big step this season, with the Canucks having won just one playoff game in the nine they've played the past two seasons and the Sharks making it all the way to Game 7 of the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals before being edged out by the Los Angeles Kings.

Team Scope:

Canucks: Not a lot of names were changed, but this team will look different this season. For example, new coach John Tortorella expects Henrik and Daniel Sedin to kill penalties and block shots in addition to maximizing their scoring chances.

"We always wanted to kill penalties and do all those kind of things," Daniel said to NHL.com. "So it will be interesting to see what happens, but we're open to anything. We want to help this team win, and whatever he wants us to do, we'll do."

Sharks: For the Sharks, change began as early as March. Floundering out of contention after a 7-0-0 start, GM Doug Wilson realized changes had to be made, particularly up front. He dealt for Raffi Torres and Scott Hannan at the trade deadline and the offense woke up. Signing free agent Tyler Kennedy brought in some additional speed and aggressiveness, which turned out even more important when Torres went down with a torn ACL last week that will sideline him three to four months.

"Our coaches are pretty excited to continue where we left off last year, and we have a clear view of how we want to play," Wilson told NHL.com prior to the start of training camp. "You know, that north/south attacking game. The players that we've added certainly fit that mold."

Injury report: Canucks forward David Booth has spent the preseason rebounding from left ankle surgery but should be ready. Forward Zach Kassian still has five regular season games to go in his suspension for high-sticking Edmomton's Sam Gagner in the preseason. Forward Jordan Schroeder (shoulder) is expected out at least three weeks…. In addition to Torres, Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart is questionable while he deals with an undisclosed injury. Forward Adam Burish (lower body) will not play Thursday while Martin Havlat will remain out while he recovers from offseason groin surgery.

On a side it's going to be an interesting year in Colorado with Roy behind the bench.

yep, he's allready been fined ten thousand, but it was a knee on knee on their young draft pick,
lucky no injury, those can be season ending torn knees, so I guess he made his point, I didn't
see it, or the replay, but yes, definitely won't be dull with him behind that bench.
they have a very young talented team, sort of like edmonton, should be interesting. anaheim
looked awful.

Was just reading about this incident in the Bleacher Report, talloola. Sticking up for your players is one thing but watching Patrick almost pushing over the partition between the benches was worth a laugh, for sure. It will be an very interesting year for the Avalanche with Roy as their coach.

On another note, and knowing there are few fans of the Buttman, here I thought I would post this photo from the BR.

Seems that the commish was somewhat underwhelmed by the Blackhawks 6 to 4 win over the Capitols. LOL!

Oh for sure, Kreskin - not a thing wrong with sticking up for your guys - good on Patrick. It was hilarious watching the video of him going after Bruce Boudreau - they sure don't make those partitions very strong as Patrick almost collapsed it. The looks on the faces of the Duck's players was priceless.

Yes, teams might think twice before doing something to get Roy mad lol.
