I watched the Canuck's pre-season game last night against the Ducks. The game ended up 4 - 1 for the Canucks. I noticed that both Schaefer and Morrison were playing for the Canucks. The Sedins were powerful as usual. The team generally looked good but this early in the season it is hard to tell. We should be seeing the real team by the time the season gets underway.

Btw, they reckon Hodgson is ready to play now. Hodgson thinks he is ready to play. I liked the guy in junior. I hope they get him on the ice soon.

With the Canucks I think you can generally count on the reg. season going contrary to the post season. If the Canucks are .500 or better after 10 games I start watching.

I meant to say preseason. Where the hell is that edit button?

The Canucks dropped an exhibition game to Edmonton 8 - 2. The Sedins didn't play along with Luongo and a few others who are not in a fight to make the team.
I rather hope that they hang onto Shaefer or Morrison or both because I think they are better than some of the forwards they have on the team. I guess we will find out.

NEXT GAME VS. Kings
LIVE ON CBC(HD) Radio: Team 1040 Kings Sat 09/10/2010 7:00 PM Canucks

opening night saturday in vancouver. exactly 40 yrs to the day after they first dropped
the puck in l970, and also it's tom larscheid's final broadcast, then dave tomlinson takes
over the color spot.

l a kings were also the first team canucks played in their first ever game 40 yrs. ago.

peter schaeffer has been given a one year contract
morrison signed with calgary, (who were trashed last night by edmonton 4-0)
our top line starting should be: daniel sedin, henrik sedin, samuelsson
second line should be: raymond, kesler and torres -
third line should be : malhotra, hansen, schaeffer-
fourth line should be: ripien, glass, desbiens.
bolduc is another home grown player in the mix, so maybe he
will part of the fourth line.

not sure how they will pair up defence, but I think bieksa and
hamhuis are one and two.
I'd like to see bieksa play up to his potential this year, the
very serious injuries he suffered in the last four years have
definitely set him back each time, hopefully he stays healthy
this year and we can see him like he was in his first couple of
years as a canuck.

they had a very good training camp. hodgson also had a good training camp, and he is
now healthy and ready to go, and vineault said in an interview that he now needs to play
and play a lot, which he will do in manitoba, then he can work his way back up to the
canuck team, (which he will do).

burrows is still healing from serious shoulder surgery, and should be ready to go in
about 10 games.
salo is also healing from that ridiculous floor hockey injury to his foot, and he might
not be ready till after Xmas.

good luck to canucks this season, may your season be successful and free from injury.

I used to love listening to Larshied years ago on CKNW, he was so comical, I got so I could pretty well predict to the word what he would say given any situation.
That was many years ago now.
He didn't have an easy row to hoe though, saddled with that horrible Chroyn's Disease.

yes, i've enjoyed him for many years too, sometimes I have trashed him for some of his
wacky sayings, eg. bingo bango bongo, his name is roberto luongo. lol lol

but he is a vibrant personality, the fans love him, and he will be missed, but hey,
it's time for him to do something else, he is getting up there, and there is lot to do
for him and his wife in the future, I imagine travel will high on the list.

I didn't know about his battle with chroyns disease.

Excellent game at 'rogers arena' tonight (not general motors place anymore), but
unfortunately canucks came out on the short end of a shoot out. Luongo had a great
game, along with jonathan quick at the other end.

My only gripe about the game was choosing kesler to shoot in the shoot out, as it was
he who took a very stupid penalty which caused the tieing goal. His effort in the
shoot out was pitiful as well.

Don't really know why he would be chosen to be a shooter, guess vineault thought he might
redeem himself by scoring.

Wonderful penalty kill during the overtime by canucks.

Canucks have a very 'deep' looking team this year, I see good things happening for them,
lots of improvement in the roster over last year, mike gillis did a good job during the
off season.

We also look real good on the penalty kill, which was not good last
season.

L.A. has a fine young team, as we remember in last years playoffs, and they will also
give other teams fits this year, kind of wierd seeing willy mitchell on that team.

final score - L.A. 2 - Vancouver 1 -shootout

Vancouver won a game over the Florida Panthers tonight. Vancouver seemed to have the better of the play and won the game 2 - 1 but they were out shot
41 to 35. The goal that beat Luongo bounced off two skates to get in the net. The Danial Sedin, assisted by his two linemates, scored both goals for the Canucks.

yeah juan, fast skating game, florida gave us more than we needed, and the goals were
hard to come by.
double shifting the top line last half of 3rd period did the trick.

luongo played awsome.

vineault is moving players around a little on 2nd and third lines, and I like hanson on
the second line, better than torres, hansen is fast like raymond and kesler.

malholtra and torres did play together in columbus, so maybe they can gel a little on the
third line together.

it's so early in the season that the lines won't be in top form for a while, but getting
the win was the key, now they go to anaheim then to l.a.

it's becoming obvious each season that 'no team' is easy to beat, everyone has to fight
tooth and nails to get the 2 points, all the teams are very good, everyone is fast, the
skating in the league has improved leaps and bounds over the past few years, like never
before in the NHL, it's good to see.

Being out shot by six shots suggests to me that our defense is lacking. I mean the whole team's defense. Luongo had to make some great saves without which, the score could have been different.
I agree that this team needs a lot of playing time to get used to playing together and to develop timing. In two or three weeks we should know if the changes made in the off season and the new players are going to make a big difference. 41 shots against and one line doing all the scoring makes me wonder.

it is far too soon to wonder and doubt, but that is what it seems to come down to I guess.
on team 1040 today tony gallaher was allready trashing vineault for moving torres down
to 3rd line and bringing hanson up, just makes me smile, these guys have nothing to
talk about, and if the team is doing great, they don't know what to say, and if they
are questioned as to why they don't say anything when the team is doing great, they just
say, we are not here to be cheer leaders. lol

I think defence has played these two games just fine, much better than defence from last
year, and we still have salo coming back at some point, which will makes even better.

Vineault is doing the right thing, looking for chemistry and playing styles that suit
one another. Top line didn't play 'great' last night, and both goals by daniel were
hard working goals, not flashy goals made from great passing, and good for them to grind
it out.
Scoring is what vineault is looking for, and he will continue moving players around till
he sees some 'gelling' by players, and the only way to do that is to watch the games,
as that can't be done pre season or training camp, too many different players.

Lets give them at least 10 games to settle in, and we miss burrows too, but I don't expect
him to be in top form till at least 10 games after he comes back.

I also don't expect some of the players to have carreer seasons like they did last year,
as some players outdid themselves with goal totals, and reality will set in this season
and some players will settle back to a more realistic number by end of season.
That is OK, as long as the team goal output is good, lots of players contributing, and
i'm sure the coaches realize that as well.

Canucks were obviously the better team last night, five on five they were much better, but those 5 on 3
penalties did them no good at all.

Some poor calls by refs, not an excuse for canucks just a fact.

Their goalie played out of his mind, he should be commended for that.

Our top line can't get going properly because samualsson is playing horrible, sure hope he gets his
game together soon, or perhaps vineault should try someone else on that line for a while.

Our defence is fine, they played good, but I hope everyone realizes that anaheim's top line is probably
the top 3 best forward lines in hockey.
getzlaf, ryan and perry, all olympians, and there is none better, so when they were in our end our
defence had it's hands full, then when we were short handed, selanne comes up huge, with that pin
point shooting, and their top line has so much advantage.

Luong let in one goal(short handed by selanne) that he was not in position to stop, but the rest of his
game was fine.

Anaheim took advantage at the right times in last nights game, but canucks were the better team.

I notice many teams are a little out of sync right now, it takes some time to smooth out the lines
and gel, they will come around, and when burrows comes back vineault will have some better choices
for the top line.

He's okay, but not on the same level as Brodeur or Miller.

he has had two years now that have been a little shaky, but he also had injuries both of those
years, and also the olympics last year.

The title elite was given to him by the 'knowledgeable' in the game, not fans. The coaches and
managers who have chosen him over the years for team canada, starting when he was a junior, and
he earned their respect during those years.

I don't give players titles, all players seem to rise and fall from time to time, their stats over
a number of years will tell the story.

Players play while injured eg. burrows all thru the playoffs last spring, no one knew till it was over.
Goalies rise and fall from time to time as well, not at their best every year, all year, thats just
the way it goes.

I'm real tired of hearing players labelled in some way by fans, I think I'm getting a little burned out
by fans, they are so selfish and self fullfilling, wanting everything to happen for them, and them
alone, and if it doesn't go their way, they pout and threaten to 'not' watch any more, it's really quite
childish and funny.
To the fans it's all about 'money', not about understanding how hard it really is to play in the NHL,
and how hard it is to 'win' in the NHL, fans want what they want 'now', like a child demanding a candy
bar, and having a tantrum if they can't have it now.

Loungo is a very good goalie, off to a great start, hope it continues, he is healthy right now, and
gillis is going to cut back a little on how many games he plays, to make sure he doesn't suffer from
fatigue down the stretch, cory schneider will get about 20 games, which will be good for him too, he
is a very good young goalie, and now needs NHL experience.

I've always enjoyed brodeur, he has had a great career, but I do think he is on the
way down now, he had an up and down year last year, and didn't play well right at the
end, he probably needs more rest during the season too.

I hope by now, everyone realizes how good los angelos is, so both teams have to 'bring it' tonight.
Should be a good game.

I watched the florida/calgary game last night, florida made calgary look very ordinary, apparantly
calgary's practice was a bag skate, not sure what good that will do, I guess it just makes players
not want to do it again, and if they play better, they wont.

Not sure if they can play better, unless they are playing an inferior team, and I can't think of one
at the moment.

But it will be interesting when we play calgary, because they hate us so much, they will find a way
to make it close.

this game was very scrambly and disconnected for the first two periods, canucks outplayed
los angelos, but couldn't put the puck in the net.
Last period los angelos outworked canucks, both teams scored, but canucks could only manage
one goal.
They had lots of chances to score, but couldn't get it done, and also had no puck luck around
the net at all, where l.a. had two goals go in that bounced off of someone, our bounces went another way,
lines still look unorganized, glad vineault is juggling them around, he needs to keep doing that
until something more organized begins to show up.
I expected a very intense upbeat game from these two teams, neither one delivered, but los angelos
found some offence.

Next game is Sunday in vancouver against carolina

Canucks had a real breakout game tonight, they needed a game like this, and the new
line combinations from vineault looked good.

samuelsson does remember how to play this game, that's good to know.

Mason Raymond finally was rewarded for all of his good play and shots in previous games, by getting
a couple of goals and one assist.

Cory Schneider played very well, and I think the reason to play him tonight is because
they play minnesota next, a divisional game, then chicago a conference game, and want luongo
to play both of them, so this game was a non stressful start for schneider, and he came thru great.

Canucks 5 Carolina 1

GO CANUCKS GO

Kesler had a better game too, and finally scored a goal.

wow, definitely have to do a 360 when giving my opinion after this game, as good as they were last
game, they stunk the place out this game.

There might have been 2 or 3 canucks who played solid, but can't think of any at the moment, and
luongo was awful too.

Daniel scored a minute into the game from henrik, then daniel scored again near the end of the game
from henrik, so they are definitely piling up the points between them, but actually in between those
goals, they didn't look any better than the others.

The best player on the ice, played in the last period, as cory schneider shut them out for the whole
period, and looked very sharp.

they go into chicago tomorrow night, haven't got a clue what we will see, they can't be any worse than they
were tonight.

Canucks were 0 for 5 on the power play and wild were 3 for 3, and they have the best power play in the NHL
at this point.

The wild were 'bagged' skated by their coach after lackluster play recently, and it sure worked, but
why did it make us play so bad, maybe vineault needs to 'bag' skate this team, but they will have to
wait till they get home, as they play tomorrow night, no time for a practice.

Rick Ripien acted like complete jerk, as he attacked a fan on his way to the dressing room after
also pushing the linesmen around a bit on his way to the bench, so I would think the league will
call him up on the carpet, and a bit of a suspension I think.
