i thought it was a good game, definitely much better than the game last night. both teams played well,
and also different than last night, 'both' goalies played outstanding, so the game had none of those
soft goals that went in last night.

they did get one point, but phoenix got 2, as they won in a shoot out.
dallas didn't play tonight.

minnesota was thumped again, by st. louis this time, goalie problems again.

Canucks host Ducks to begin key homestandSaturday, 03.29.2014 / 1:18 AMJohn Kreiser - NHL.com Columnist

DUCKS (47-18-7) at CANUCKS (34-30-11)

TV: CBC; KDOC

Last 10: Anaheim 4-4-2; Vancouver 6-3-1

Season series: The Anaheim Ducks are making their first visit of the season to Rogers Arena; they'll be there again on April 7. The Ducks won all three games against the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center, including a 9-1 rout on Jan. 15.

Big story: The Ducks missed a chance to take back first place in the Pacific Division on Friday when they lost in overtime against the Edmonton Oilers. At least the Ducks know they're going to the Stanley Cup Playoffs; the Canucks begin a five-game homestand desperate for points as they chase a wild-card position. Vancouver begins the day five points behind the Phoenix Coyotes, who own the second wild-card spot.

Team Scope:

Ducks: Anaheim left a point on the table in Edmonton. Despite outshooting the Oilers 51-23 and having a 5-on-3 power play in overtime, the Ducks lost 4-3 when Andrew Ference scored with 69 seconds remaining in the extra period.

Not getting two points against the worst team in the Western Conference didn't sit well with coach Bruce Boudreau, whose team is still one point behind the San Jose Sharks. The Ducks do have two games in hand.

"You have a chance to put these teams away and you don't, and when that happens, you're not going to get what you want," Boudreau said.

Canucks: Vancouver is also coming off an overtime loss, but the Canucks were happy to leave with the single point after being beaten 3-2 in OT by the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Thursday. Vancouver went 1-0-1 on a quick two-game trip and plays six of its final seven -- including the next five -- at home. The Canucks had the day off Friday.

"I really like how the team has just taken each day that comes their way - each day at practice, each game that comes," coach John Tortorella said after the game in Denver. "I thought we played so much better tonight than we did last night. We're still in it.

"No bad news from me here. We'd like to get the two, but that's a huge point for us."

Who's hot: Fourth-liner Patrick Maroon had a goal and an assist on Friday, giving him five points in Anaheim's past three games. … Vancouver goaltender Eddie Lack is 3-0-1 in his past four games, allowing seven goals.

Injury report: Ducks defenseman Marc Fistric (lower body) is day to day. Defenseman Cam Fowler (knee) may not return until the playoffs. … The Canucks are without center Henrik Sedin (leg), as well as defensemen Christopher Tanev (hand) and Andrew Alberts (concussion). Center Mike Santorelli (shoulder) isn't expected back this season. Defenseman Kevin Bieksa (lower body)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

frank corrado will take bieksa's place tonight.

I think the Canucks' hopes for the playoffs are starting to fade. Up until Koivu scored in the 2nd I thought the teams were very evenly matched, Canucks just can't seem to sustain pressure for three periods. They definitely need Hank back! Getslaf is pretty formidable, maybe a bit of a mean streak!

anaheim is too much for canucks, they are very big, very talented, with good goalkeeping. they have clinched
playoffs, but still played hard, and gave canucks a bAttle, they have good individual players, and
sallane wasn't even playing tonight. getzlaf and perry are a pair of very big very talented players,
perry scored his 38th goal tonight.
lack played well, but can't stop everything, sometimes it is just too hard, and some of those shots
were plays that ended up in the goal from good passing and good pressure.

they are a better team than canucks.

dallas also won, phoenix lost, but minnesota won.

in the western conference there will be a lot of 'real good' teams
represented in the playoffs. when they get underway, it will be
a toss up as to just who will come out of the west.
the west is very strong this year, doesn't mean they will win the
cup , but it does mean all of the playoff series will be top notch,
with very strong teams, so good entertainment is waiting for us.
st. louis, san jose, colorado, chicago, phoenix, los angelos, and anaheim,
are all very strong teams,(anytime any of these teams play each other in a
playoff series, one very strong team will lose out. dallas or minnesota,
will round out the top 8.
not quite as strong but still competetive.
if dallas or minnesota win a series in the playoffs it will be surprising,
but can happen, and won't be that much of an upset, they both have good
teams, just aren't consistent enough.
i know phoenix is also in danger of missing playoffs, but i still
consider them among the strong teams in the west, which is why i
included them on the top list.

rangers next on tuesday.

Even though most of the year has been a write-off I've been very impressed with David Booth lately. He has some wheels and skill. I hope they keep him next year.

yes, what a transition, i'm wondering why, why did he wait to show everyone what we saw when he first
came to the team, is it because he is playing for next year, i find it kind of irritating, as i
wondered all year, and last, where all of that speed and energy went, and the shot, and the desire.
now we are seeing it, i just have to ask, why. i know he had a couple of key injuries, but he had
lots of time to put that behind him, a long time ago.
anyway, yes, if this is what he is going to bring to the team, then stay, for sure.

i'm still hoping they send torterella packing. he sat jensson the other
night for over 20 minutes in last period, and when team 1040
asked him why he was stapled to the bench for that long, torterella
said that he had sat him, then noticed how long he sat him, then
decided he sat there too long, so didn't want to play him at all.
that is about the most stupid explanation i've heard from a coach
ever.

Yeah, I had Booth figured for a keeper the first time I saw him. A lot of heart! It's almost like some kind of trauma struck the team after their good run before Xmas.

booth has played poorly a lot longer than after xmas, it was all season till now, and last season as well.

I think Booth, like some of the others, have been blindsided by Torts. Like playing in a straight jacket. But I give Booth credit for sticking it out and becoming a better player.

he played poorly for vineault last season as well. but he is a good sport, doesn't whine and complain,
seems to stay positive and realize his own faults, so those are good traits and will help him to
always improve. but if they keep him next season, and he goes back to the way he has played for
about a year and a half, it will be very dissapointing.
it has been quite well known that it was going to be him who will be bought out at the end of the
season, at least that was all the talk, and if he is bought out, he doesn't receive all of the
4 million plus owed to him for next year, so i'm a bit suspicious, why has he decided to turn it
on only in the last month, he didn't just 'remember' how to play.
if they keep him, then decide to trade him, he will then receive 'all' of his 4 mill plus in the
last year of his contract next year.

ha ha, speaking of straight jackets, torterella was close to wearing one
in calgary not too long ago. lol

OT and shoot out.

Very intense match today - reminded of the good old days of the Broad Street Bullies vs the Boston Bad Boys.

that was an excellent game, i watched most of it, great hockey by two teams who were willing to give
their all for the win, but also play the game properly.

if these two teams meet each other in the playoffs it will be well worth watching.

i also watched pittsburg/chicago, and i was disgusted with the hit orpik did on toews. he is a big
mean dude, who hits to hurt. there couldn't be a penalty on the play As the hit is considered legal,
but the point is 'that', he was trying to hurt him, he did hurt him, don't know the outcome, but
when he left the game he looked like he was in agony, so not sure about his condition.
he was probably outweighed by about 75 pounds, toews must have felt like he was hit by a truck.
even millbury, whom i normally can't stand remarked that there should be some sort of retalliation
by chicago, but what.
the person who should retalliate against orpik is 'crosby', as it is his body now that is vulnerable,
as the resitution for that hit, could go against crosby, and if i was crosby i would not be happy
with orpik at all, and i wouldn't blame him, one has to know that the whole chicago team is fuming
now at that hit, so what is next.

orpik could easily have accomplished what he needed to, by hitting only half that hard.

i'm beginning to see a bit of a change coming for playoffs, possibly.

chicago lost jonathan toews last night, seems serious, we'll see, also kane is still out,
suppose to be back for playoffs, but even with one of those players missing in the
playoff roster, makes a difference to the chicago team, hope they are both healthy by then.
this team is deep in talent, but not a big team who depends on physical strength to help them,
chicago uses its speed and talent to win, and they need all of it playing.

now duchene, top scorer for colorado is injured, not expected back for four weeks, so he will
miss beginning of playoffs, another valuable player out of the lineup.
he is talented and very fast, and will be missed, for sure.

i don't want to see any team win because of the missing 'top' players of the opposition, so i
wish them all a speedy recovery, and hope we see them all back in the game soon.

Too bad this stuff didn't happen before they loused things up for the Canucks. L.O.L.

wouldn't have made any difference, even without those players, they Are both still better than the
canucks, who also have had their own injuries.

ryan kesler is a minus player this year, and not just a little bit, a lot, never before has he played
that poorly as a defensive forward, let alone a scoring forward.

that is only one problem on the team, there are lots more, number one being the coach.
