Good to see Isles do well tonight - looking forward to seeing them move to Brooklyn.

Of all the thousands of players over the years it's next to impossible to pick the worst. Billy Smith and Ron Hextall are a couple that come to mind. Little mummy's boy Eric Lindross was one I had absolutely no use for or I should say "Big mummy's baby" . I never could work up too much enthusiasm over Brat Hull. (but probably not for any valid reason) Jeremy Roenick could probably be an A$$hole at times. Of course Big Gordie was hated for his elbows.

For me it's Dave Forbes who deliberately used his stick to poke out Henry Boucha's eye. He should have been hung for that one.

I love the 'never' give up, play hard the whole game attitude. 'stuff' happens in games that are
not expected, sometimes for, sometimes against, just move on, can't do anything about it.

both goalies played great, the right one came away with the win, but n.j. did get a point.
they still have no wins on the season.

kesler needs to find his game, he wasn't a part of the mix much tonight, even though he is a force
going both ways in a game, he still doesn't have much of a play making talent, never has, but he
needs to do what he can do best, and it isn't happening yet.

I like the comment luongo made in post game interview, "torts won't let us give up", that says a lot
for the success of the team thus far.

Torts sure has praise for Edler. I think he'll mold Edler into a force.

There didn't seem like there was much room out there tonight, like playing in a closet. The Devils are usually pretty tight. A real grind it out game.

Glad to see your Canucks came through with another win, talloola. Not paying at great deal of attention to hockey yet but do catch all the highlights on Sportscentre and I read the Bleacher Report daily so have some idea of how the teams are doing this early in the season.

Yeah they certainly have got this season underway on the right foot. Hope it continues for most of the 78 remaining games. Hard to fault Alain Vigneault for his coaching abilities but as the old saying goes perhaps "a new broom sweeps clean".

that was the whole idea jlm, vineault is a good coach, but his style was no longer creating the canucks
to play hockey with passion and enough desire and confidence, so the change was needed, the time had come,
and your broom comment is correct, but also torterella has much more passion 'outwordly' which seems to
connect with the players directly and quickly, and as luongo stated, torts won't let us give up.
vineault had a more quiet way of coaching, expecting the players to put that energy into themselves,
but it seems that doesn't always work.
I can remember many many games where the team was fading away, and vineault would stand quietly with that
disgusted look on his face, but would say nothing, and most of the time he wouldn't change much concerning
the lines either.
Torterella is much different, and when the team does become a bit lazy, they will hear it from him right
now, might not always work, but I see it as positive input.

As usual with "matters hockey" I tend to agree with you. -:)

st louis has a very good team this year and should give chicago a run for their money.

I like chicago, but totally agree about boston.

Perhaps it would have been more accurate if I said "any game Duncan Keith loses...................."

VAN Radio: 1040 Sharks Thu 10/10/2013 7:00 PM Canucks Season series: The San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks play three more times in 2013-14, with the Sharks taking the first meeting 4-1 in their home opener Oct. 3. San Jose won all seven meetings last season against Vancouver, including three in the regular season and four when the Sharks swept the Canucks out of the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Big story: Rookie Tomas Hertl is taking over San Jose. The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Hertl" comes off a history-making performance in the Sharks' 9-2 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Hertl's four goals, including a highlight-reel move that saw him put the puck between his legs and shoot over the right shoulder of goalie Martin Biron, sparked the Sharks to the win and a 3-0-0 start.

"It's crazy," said Hertl, who was the 17th player taken in the 2012 NHL Draft out of the Czech Republic. "This is a dream. Four goals. I never [scored four] in the Czech League. I never had three. In the NHL, it's crazy."

Team Scope:

Sharks: The Sharks took advantage of a Rangers team on an extended road trip and playing the second of back-to-back nights. San Jose, a team projected by many to contend for and even win the Stanley Cup, has scored a League-leading 17 goals.

Canucks: Right behind the Sharks in goals for are the Canucks, with 15. In a much-hyped goalie matchup, Roberto Luongo got the best of former teammate Cory Schneider in Vancouver's 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. Luongo finished with 21 saves and earned career victory No. 350.

"They are all important games," Luongo said. "At the end of the day, I just wanted to play my game and give my team a chance, and obviously getting the two points is nice."

Who's hot: Hertl, 19, already has six goals. No other player in Sharks franchise history has scored more than four in his first three NHL games. He is the youngest NHL player to score four in a game since Jimmy Carson of the Los Angeles Kings on March 20, 1988, against the Calgary Flames, at 19 years and 254 days. … The Sedin twins continue to pace the Canucks. Daniel and Henrik Sedin are tied for the team lead with six points.

Injury report: The Sharks are missing forwards Adam Burish (lower-body injury), Raffi Torres (torn right ACL) and Martin Havlat (pelvic surgery). … Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows is on injured reserve with a foot injury sustained in the season opener. Defenseman Jeremie Blain (undisclosed), left wing Nicklas Jensen (upper body) and center Jordan Schroeder (foot) are also on IR.

---------------------------------------------------

this shark team has outshot the opponants big time, and is a team to
definitely be prepared for, and I know the canucks will do that, BUT
even then, it might just be a road too hard to climb.
a win tonight would be a huge confidence builder.

hertl, the 19 yr old on sharks team scored 4 goals in their last game,
he is just as surprised as everyone else, but he is playing on a top
line, which certainly doesn't hurt anyone, he is one to watch tonight
to see if he can continue that type of play, as he is currently leading
the nhl in points.

A win tonight would, at least momentarily put the Canucks in first place, and do wonders for their confidence. The Canucks need a shut-out performance from Luongo and they have to get goals from other people as well as the Sedins. Vancouver is at a bit of a disadvantage playing without Burrows who was their big scorer last year.

You're right on two counts, ie. their confidence and the absence of Burrows. A win tonight against S.J. (they can do it) would be huge!

the confidence on that san jose team right now is very high, they are feeling very very good about

themselves, BUT remember last season, I think they started out with 7 wins in a row, then settled

back and remained in the middle of the pack somewhere and played good hockey, not excellent, so

it would be nice to nip this in the bud early, and make them realize they are not unbeatable, they

are in our 'barn' tonight, lets let them know that this is not an easy place to play.

staying out of the box is a good start, don't want their power play slamming pucks at luongo all

night.

yeah, that was his win for sure, he stoned them.

Yep, that is just great news, especially as Colorado is no longer in our division. Now the Canucks just have to pull up their socks a bit!

Well maybe the Canucks got S.J. so worn down tonight that the next team they play will be able to devour them!

the game was no surprise, canucks spent most of the game trying to contain the sharks, who have four
strong lines, great defense and good goaltending, they are very big team and also fast, which is
something they have 'added' in the past couple of years, they use to be big, talented and slow, no
more.

they just keep coming, canucks had very little in offensive threats, and when they did their goalie
was right there.

not sure about that goal by marleau, but the rest of their goals were just their ability to overpower
and get the good shot.

san jose 3 vancouver 2

next game against montreal on saturday, then off on a long 7 game road trip, with 2 sets of back to
back games.
