I'm generally not a big fan of referees but I have to say the Grey Cup crew did an outstanding job. Even that call at the end was the right one.

Well, if they don't say sorry it's just bad manners.

I like the clock management of the CFL. With 2 or 3 minutes left there is still a lot football to be played. No walking off the field.

Heck with 54 seconds left the entire game can hang in the balance. Those games that come down to the wire, have us on the edge of our seats with anticipation - they are the best.

I find that the games Andre Prue (sp) officiates are generally better than others. He seems to keep his guys well in line when it comes to unnecessary calls while catching most of the necessary ones. Although as Kent was wont to mention in his post-game press conferences, there are still calls that are missed out there. But yes, the officiating yesterday was solid.

Thanks for your staunch support of my ;-) Riders, IRBS but no need to bash the Stamps over the broken Cup - it has happened before and only adds to it's history.

It would have broken with our glorious tradition of going for many long years between Cups had we played and beat the Stamps them in this one. LOL

Our Riders. I live in Toronto but grew up in Saskatchewan. I remember games in the 70s but really didn't start attending until the late 70s during the Ron Lancaster coaching era. I consider myself a true fan for that alone. :) I also went to almost all the home games during 1980 or 1981 (the one which ended in BC on that rainy day and those 2 fumbles). Followed them close through the struggles in the early 80s and still followed them when I moved to Toronto in 1985. Saw them beat the Argos at the Skydome/Rogers Centre many times. My son has also become a Rider fan even though he has grown up in Toronto.

I also will take every opportunity to bash the Stamps. I was cheering for them only since I despise the Ticats more.

And that, in a nutshell, is why I love CFL. The NFL has it's beauty, and is certainly impressive, but the CFL game is both more urgent with only three downs, and way more free-wheeling. To regular NFL watchers, it has a sort of wide-open, anything-goes, sandlot quality to it.

Plus, you just gotta love a league that has a penalty for "objectionable behaviour."

I think the CFL would be really interesting with NFL players.

I also would like to see a merged set of rules. There are some things which the NFL does much better (punt returns seem saner in the NFL -- nobody running away from the ball to avoid a penalty). Also rewarding failures (missed FG points) seems really silly. I like both 3 down and 4 down style but prefer the 4. In the CFL there is little mystery that on 2nd down it will be a pass. Less opportunity for play action. In the NFL, 2nd down can be either. Also by 3rd down, the distance can be shorter so there is still some mystery.

Heck with 54 seconds left the entire game can hang in the balance. Those games that come down to the wire, have us on the edge of our seats with anticipation - they are the best.

Clock management is a skill in the NFL because the time can dissipate quickly if timeouts and such are not properly managed. One more layer of strategy. With the CFL, you can score a lot in 2 minutes and there isn't so much urgency because of it.

The idea of the single point isn't to reward a missed field goal. It honours the tradition of awarding a single point for kicking the ball into the end zone. That was a rule before the CFL became the CFL.

Clock management is a skill however there isn't much football played. Games are usually over well before they are over. Not too exciting to watch the clock run while people walk off the field.

Well the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment and Bell has purchased the venerable old (142 years) Argonauts Football Club franchise and will move it in 2016 to BMO field. That's great news. The CFL thrives in classic open air stadiums, on natural turf of 25 or 30 thousand seats. I expect it will be every bit as successful as the resurrected Alouettes in Montreal.

Rogers had kicked them out of their cruddy Rogers Centre so a move was imperative. The Roger's Centre is an energy sucking mausoleum of a stadium.. artificial (light and turf), cramped, lacking character and warmth.. and has proven to be one of the most oppressive places to watch a sports event in North America.

If Rogers had any sense they'd tear down this ugly fiasco of a 'multipurpose' venue and the connected and equally ugly CN Tower (or whatever they call it now).. and build a classic venue on the model of Camden Yards or Fenway Park down on the CNE grounds.

But there is no such vision at Rogers (i speculate they still pine for an NFL Franchise). Thankfully MLSE can see the business and civic potential of the Argonauts in the all Canadian CFL. So well done to them and Go Argos.

Argonauts announce sale, move to BMO Field - CBC Sports - Football - CFL
