The GOM is a sink hole so the shelves in that area are actually coming out from under the land, that is why New Orleans is sinking and that same pattern will extent to the Great Lakes and further north as that whole area dips down as it is above the down flows that must take place when the Atlantic and Pacific Rifts are both expanding at the same time. Florida may/maynot get secke in but the east side should get lifted up due to the Atlantic Rift not sinking until it is under the GOM, a sinkhole that is 3.4B years old, same as Hudson Bay BTW.
