Story:

Many women and girls keep a hair tie handy by wearing it around their wrist when they are not using it.

Audree Kopp, a woman from Kentucky, had been wearing a sparkly hair tie on her wrist when she noticed a bump that became red, raised and continued to grow. First she was prescribed antibiotics, but the bump kept getting worse and she eventually ended up in an emergency room.

“I didn’t believe it at first, I thought that it was a spider bite, or something else, not from wearing hair-ties,” Kopp told WLKY News. “They said I needed surgery and thank God I caught it in time or I could have had sepsis.”

Doctors say the glittery hair tie Kopp had on her wrist was carrying a bacteria. The bacteria infected her arm through her pores and hair follicles – causing three types of infection.

I just use hide. Leather thong is so handy for things. Double clove hitches are easy to do, too.

I haven't any hair to put up. When I had long hair I couldn't put it up or I'd get a head ache. Which is why I gave up having long hair. In Victoria it blows around constantly and get into your eyelashes or mouth. Here on the mainland the rain fall straight down and it's rarely windy so you can actually have the hair style you want rather then having to accept the "wind blown" look.

My cats very much like leather thongs. I have them for walking sticks and my cats just love them. Small piece and they're flicking it around the living room. Our large cat likes to teeth on them until they're gross and slimey and really stinky. cats,eh? hunters to their core.

We had Tom for a while. he was given to us when his owner moved. 11 kg of gentle frolic. Gentle except for dogs and his "snake". His "snake" was a piece of surgical tubing. It was fun watching him with it. Quite the character. =)

When I had long hair (about 90 cm) it was almost always braided. Now it reaches the tops of my shoulders and I wear a pony lots.
