A call from another country and a quick response by SPS Patrol resulted in the rescue of a 5-year-old girl being exploited online from a residence in Regina yesterday morning.
At around 4:00 a.m. on July 28, 2025, SPS members in Communications received a call from a man in the Middle East who had been using a randomized online chat room when he came across a live stream of an adult male committing an indecent act in a room where a prepubescent girl was also present. The complainant established email contact with the SPS and promptly provided details and screenshots to further the investigation. Through the information received, two addresses in Saskatoon were identified as possibly being involved and members of Patrol were immediately dispatched to investigate; officers spoke to residents at both addresses and determined them not to be involved. While the investigation was continuing, the complainant, nearly 11,000 kilometers away, had re-matched in the chat room with the same suspect and obtained further evidence to assist in the investigation. Through fast and exemplary police work, officers determined the suspect was believed to be at a residence in Regina. SPS members immediately contacted the Regina Police Service (RPS) to conduct a priority call for service at a residence in Regina to ensure the safety of the young victim. Upon attending the residence, members of the RPS located the 51-year-old suspect and a 5-year-old girl. He was arrested and has been charged with one count of making child pornography. Police seized his electronic devices for further examination and the Saskatchewan ICE Unit is continuing to investigate. Victim Services are now involved in supporting the young girl as the investigation continues.
Across international borders and provincial jurisdictions, this is a definitive example of how one report can be the difference in rescuing a victim of crime. If you believe a child to be in danger of sexual exploitation or abuse, report it to your local police or notify the Canadian Centre for Child Protection.
