There was a major gold rush around Barnhartvale in the late 1800's and around Yale as well. There are also many many gold mines in the Yukon and a gold rush up there as well in the late 1800's. Well hopefully Gold stays high. :) I do own some.

You sure you didn't mean BARKERVILLE?

Barnhartvale is a quiet suburb of Kamloops.... ;) ;) ;)

OH YA BOY.
Thar's gold in them thar hills!!

I live in Kootenay area of BC, where Silver and Gold were what brought people here in the first, or second after natives, place.

There are many mines around here , many gold and silver strikes [they go together]
Rossland was the biggest producer I think, and Nelson, Ymir, Salmon Siding [now Salmo after the Salmon were blocked by dams!] and others. Slocan, the Silvery Trrail , they call it.

Now, most of these places are ski paradises due to the great snow here. We had a dump last night, the hills are ready early, C'mon.

Now, Trail is still producing ore, and the Sparwood area is producing top grade coal by the mega tonne.

The town of Trail area turned all red-brown as the vegitation died from the pollution.
Our streams are rife with heavy metal pollution, Salmo River has car bodies along the banks holding back toxic dumps of cyanide and arsenic and mercury. Really awful stuff.Want photos?

The Salmo River was used to dump 100,000's of tons of mining waste. Nobody eats the [remaining] fish even now.

Oh yes, mining shaped this area.
First, they burned off all the cedar forests so they could see the gold and travel easier - really disgusting stuff. Thousands of sq miles of virgin forest was leveled and now is just scrappy trees and loose soils.

History is as bleak as Prophesy eh?

Karlin,
Thanks for taking the time to fill me in on the mining situation.
I am sorry to tell you but Canada rarely makes the news down here, and when it does, it's usually about oil and gas.

I have to seek out news about Canada on the internet in order to learn anything. You know...they don't teach Canadian history in the US. We have so much going on here, it fills the newspaper with crapola every single day.

I have been there - once. Vancouver. About 5 years ago. Very beautiful town, and the food was good. As I told my friend, it was just different enough to be interesting, but not so different that it was scary.
