Global warming may 'stop', scientists predict

Researchers studying long-term changes in sea temperatures said they now expect a "lull" for up to a decade while natural variations in climate cancel out the increases caused by man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

The average temperature of the sea around Europe and North America is expected to cool slightly over the decade while the tropical Pacific remains unchanged.
This would mean that the 0.3°C global average temperature rise which has been predicted for the next decade by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change may not happen, according to the paper published in the scientific journal Nature.
However, the effect of rising fossil fuel emissions will mean that warming will accelerate again after 2015 when natural trends in the oceans veer back towards warming, according to the computer model.

Noel Keenlyside of the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences, Kiel, Germany, said: "The IPCC would predict a 0.3°C warming over the next decade. Our prediction is that there will be no warming until 2015 but it will pick up after that."

He stressed that the results were just the initial findings from a new computer model of how the oceans behave over decades and it would be wholly misleading to infer that global warming, in the sense of the enhanced greenhouse effect from increased carbon emissions, had gone away.

The IPCC currently does not include in its models actual records of such events as the strength of the Gulf Stream and the El Nino cyclical warming event in the Pacific, which are known to have been behind the warmest year ever recorded in 1998.

Today's paper in Nature tries to simulate the variability of these events and longer cycles, such as the giant ocean "conveyor belt" known as the meridional overturning circulation (MOC), which brings warm water north into the North East Atlantic.

This has a 70 to 80-year cycle and when the circulation is strong, it creates warmer temperatures in Europe. When it is weak, as it will be over the next decade, temperatures fall. Scientists think that variations of this kind could partly explain the cooling of global average temperatures between the 1940s and 1970s after which temperatures rose again.

Global warming forecast predicts rise in 2014
[Yeah sure, right! Can't ruin the party after all]

Writing in Nature, the scientists said: "Our results suggest that global surface temperature may not increase over the next decade, as natural climate variations in the North Atlantic and tropical Pacific temporarily offset the projected anthropogenic [manmade] warming." [That might not have anything to do with global warming being complete BS?!!]

The study shows a more pronounced weakening effect than the Met Office's Hadley Centre, which last year predicted that global warming would slow until 2009 and pick up after that, with half the years after 2009 being warmer than the warmest year on record, 1998.

Commenting on the new study, Richard Wood of the Hadley Centre said the model suggested the weakening of the MOC would have a cooling effect around the North Atlantic.
"Such a cooling could temporarily offset the longer-term warming trend from increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

"That emphasises once again the need to consider climate variability and climate change together when making predictions over timescales of decades."

But he said the use of just sea surface temperatures might not accurately reflect the state of the MOC, which was several miles deep and dependent on factors besides temperatures, such as salt content, which were included in the Met Office Hadley Centre model.

If the model could accurately forecast other variables besides temperature, such as rainfall, it would be increasingly useful, but climate predictions for a decade ahead would always be to some extent uncertain, he added.

Oh what a load of crap! These idiots have no idea what's going on. All that matters is who is signing the cheques for their research grants.

*Raises Hand*

I told you all so....

"Oh well it looks like Global Warming isn't about to hit us afterall..... Oh, but we wern't wrong in our original assumption and computer models, it's going to get colder for the next little while and then Global Warming is going to pick back up after it gets cold....."

Are you Fu*king retarded?! *Clubs Stupid Scientists with a Hakipik*

They got it all wrong, it's going exactly as I have been telling everybody, but to cover their asses and trying to make it seem that they wern't wrong and didn't waste all the time and money scaring us about Global Warming, they're going to put it off..... AGAIN!!!!

Put it off like they did in the 80's.... put it off like they did in the 90's..... put it off like they have been in the last couple of years..... Oh! Wait!! Now this time they're right.... it's going to be put off again for another couple of years and then at that time we can start counting down to doomsday.

In the 80's we were all supposed to start drowning and dieing in the mid/late 90's..... then the century turns and apparently based on how things were then, we are supposed to be drowning and dieing off within the next 15-30 years....... OH WAIT A MINUTE!!! We're cooling down and apparently nothing is going to happen until 2015 now..... so that will add yet another 8 years on top of when all this is supposed to be hitting us.....

Oh but there's still more:

By 2015, then we'll all start warming back up, so therefore we can no longer count on it hitting us in 15-30 years, but now somewhere around 20-25 years?

Let me guess.... once it hits 2010 they'll push it off another 10 or so years..... YET AGAIN!?

Fu*king Inbred Retards! I swear I don't know what's worse.... these people trying to scare us with stupid and flawed studies, or the people who just simply believe them and don't bother to think about it.

Hell, if I keep putting off my own predictions every damn time things don't add up, eventually I'd get it right too..... we're paying these guys for what again?

I don't get why everyone hinges the need for change on this stupid, unprovable argument.

How about we turn instead to the rises in illness in our citizens?

How about we turn instead to the cancer rates?

How about we look at overfished oceans?

There are proofs all around that we need to stop wasting so much, and dumping so much into the enviro. And it needs to be tackled locally and not overshadowed by this ridiculousness.

Well apparently most of our cancers and illnesses we keep getting are from all them medications they tell us are good for us and cure so many other things.... or that we shouldn't buy butter/margarine with hydronated oils in them, which were originally supposed to be better for us.

Then we were told MRI's were good at detecting breast cancer, only for us to find out that 1 in 4 tests are usually "False Positives" and that they now have a better way of detecting them now, meanwhile a crap load of women in Newfoundland alone have died or suffered from false test results.

Then we're told that gas and oil is bad for the environment and we should switch over to veggie fuel..... now we're complaining we don't have enough food to feed the world's population because of this, so now we have to go back to oil.

We've been using the same bottles and other various plastics for how many decades now for our food and drinks..... now we're told toxins are in the plastics and we have to scrap all our platics in our housholds for our own protection.

We've been given antibiotics for pretty much any sickness we ended up having when we were younger, now we're told that too many antibiotics can make viruses and other things it's supposed to fight, become even stronger and perhaps cause even more problems for our bodies and antibodies because of them.

We were told that we should be drinking 8 glasses of water a day, and now new studies are telling us that isn't required and there isn't any real evidence proving 8 glasses of water benifits anything for your body.

We were told that smoking while pregnant will cause premature births or birth defects and now a new study claims any benifits or health problems linked to smoking are now inconclusive either way and that they haven't found any direct connections to birth defects and smoking tobacco.

I swear science hasn't evolved any farther then the age old "Trial and Error" process.... and we're the lab rats.

It's the money behind the science who manufacture the crisis which turns on the presses which spews out the profits which fattens the sacred cows of the wealthy. If you want to find god follow the money. I'm sure that much of our turmoil on earth could be eliminated simply by eating the rich. squeek
