I watched FOX at my brothers place once I thought the news was a comedy skit till he told me the differance.

I wouldn't say it's a pillar of Canadian identity, but rather a reflection of Canadian identity - things that happen in Canada or the world and how it affects us, specifically.
Identity and television don't belong in the same sentance in my opinion. The CBC may produce historical documentaries, news pertaining to Canada and Canadian Content, but I cannot see how it is a reflection of Canadian indentity. PBS airs the same thing, American history, regional news and so forth, how does this constitute a television station being a reflection of American indentity? I can't see it.

http://www.robertfulford.com/2005-09-03-cbc.htmlThat could have been said, and often was, in 1980. Even then it seemed antiquated; now it demonstrates crippling self-delusion. When Rabinovitch refers to a broad cross-section of the public, he seems unaware that the CBC stopped reaching a broad public long ago. Each CBC program gets only a tiny sliver of the TV audience. When he says the CBC must have shows directed to "dedicated but smaller audiences," he forgets that all its programs go to small audiences. The CBC has no other kind.

Right?? The CBC has a share of audience very close to CTV and CBC covers the whole country. Thank goodness most real Canadians want to keep the CBC.

I've already said that the CBC broadcasts in English and French, plus eight first nations languages. I don't care if you agree or not. This is a Canadian issue for Canadians to handle and we are doing quite well without your help thank you. Real Canadians understand.

Ask me, ask me!

Also considering we need something with Canadian content on the air ways, cutting the CBC from fed funding would be nuts.
