This is the main reason why I don't believe in god. Aside from the small problem that all of the thousands of religions think that they have the one true god and everyone else is wrong. And that doesn't even include those that believe in many gods. I think I will wait until they sort it out amongst themselves and come up with one common thread and provide physical proof. This doesn't mean killing off each other until there is only one bunch of wacos left either.
lol
Earth is the insane asylum of the universe. :D I read that on a bumper sticker.

The response came because your post was telling me how to reply to somebody, or that I shouldn't reply at all. That is the part you are to be quiet about, if and how I reply is not your call. If you would have been posting a reply to some point I made I would not have asked for silence in the matter.

Cliffy is another one that absolutely does not believe in God yet he can be found on every thread about God. I can live with that no matter how odd I find the behavior.
He just wants to make sure everyone sees his version of things. A lot of people are like that. The spooky ones are those who don't want to share, I think. lol

I think there is definitely a supreme power (man wasn't invented by an equal & I doubt if he evolved from a lesser form) you just can't make pearls from swine. Anyway the supreme power I'm sure regards the human race as equals (he doesn't give a sh*t if some are darker skinned because they've spent more time in the sun), so all these different "religions" and denominations are meaningless to Him. I think if he read the fairy tale about Jonah surviving three days and nights in a whale he'd have a good chuckle and probably put the book down.
That's ok, a lot of people don't understand evolution, so you aren't alone.
I don't really think there's a supreme anything. And if there is, it isn't for long. It's like the Olympics, there may be a best in high-jumping at the time, but not everyone that jumps was there to compete and the next year it'd be someone different. Look at how many updates there has been in Guinness's Book of World Records.
Anyway, the universe and life on Earth wasn't poofed here but some mystical magic wand waving. It was likely a rare combination of physical and chemical circumstance. And it probably didn't only occur here.
People evolved. Darwin's tree of life was only partially correct ... only a part of a much larger story:

Charles Darwin's tree of life is 'wrong and misleading', claim scientists - Telegraph

What about the ridicule, the leaky hand posts , the making fun of Jesus?
It's not a civil discussion, it's a hanging.

I really believe the Bible and the history of Jesus has been skewed by the hand of man.
But the intent of Jesus is one of multi leveled charity.
So people decide to ridicule the followers, the believers.
Your worst than the people that altered history.

Yes some of the believers go ape hairy and think you are going to hell.
Your already in hell, your being nasty to the needy.

As for did the man actually exist.

Emperor Constantine adopted Him as his God. It was only a few hundred years after Jesus's death. The religion had taken root. Surely Constantine knew that the man really existed. History did not record the man as he wasn't an emperor or a famous general. But somehow He survived enough that Constantine elevated Him to Son of God status.
...... or was just as fooled as a lot of other people around his time. Fun ny that we have artifacts from various different people throughout the ages, some important and some not important, and yet one that made such an alleged impression on everyone in his day left absolutely nothing. There's not even a reasonably detailed description of his face, or even whether he wore woolen clothing or flax clothing, or what color he liked most, if he had big feet and a crooked nose; nothing.

Why do you think God has to POOF things into being in order to meet some sort of criteria for being God? Surely as we learn more and more about this planet and life on it we see nothing is poofed into being.
Answering prayers is the same. Why does God have to answer prayer in order to meet that criteria of being a creator.

Look at the genetic Wisdom.
Look at the evolutionary Wisdom held within life itself.
Man wasn't invented , Man evolved from a Wisdom within the very fabric of life itself.
A very patient Wisdom .
There has to be a cause for this wonderous effect.
Does there? Does there have to be a beginning and end to the universe? Who says? I bet who says are simply people with limited imagination and limited views that can't even imagine there'd be anything beyond their limits. The sort of people that swore up & down the Earth was flat because the leader of their faith said so. But then there are still people that say that and everything science has come up with to show otherwise is just one tremendous, multinational, multigenerational hoax. lmao

I think that because that's what the Bible says. At first people thought everything was created in 6 days (as in our 24 hour type day) and then they amended it to mean 6 days where a day is a thousand years). Conjuring is conjuring whether its done in 6 seconds, 6 days or 6 thousand years.

C I think you are charming? Assumptions again? And what has this to do with the topic anyway? You following me around just to squeeze in these little jabs wherever you can see me posting? I'm flattered but you don't have to place this much importance on me.
BTW, yes I did take some psychology in college. I've also got a neighbor that's a psychiatrist and I've met a few unfortunate fellow people like you. The last one had mutliple personality disorder but refused to take his prescribed meds, poor guy. I can't really blame him for not wanting his meds because they're not very nice, but then when he had taken them he never bothered anyone. Now he gets beat up every week or every other week.
Anyway, you want to chat about gays, their rights, and what is in the Bible about gays and their rights now?

Why should there be? By all those in power He was just some radical Rabbinacl Jew upstart. They crucified Him. Why create a legend and write about him in history.

I ask you. If He was only a made up myth how did the myth start. We do know about the early Christians being used in the colliseum for hundred or so years. their religion an outlawed one. At the time of Pontious Pilate Rome kept history. Constatine would have real access to that history. How could something that really never happened go amiss of the Roman emperor, who we know had a dream before a war and promised to become a Christian if he won. Or at least we know something of this that points to this. Ok so he decided a fisher of men was not enough he raised Him to Son of God instead of Son of Man.

He only shifted his belief because of the outcome and promise which took place in a dream. The Christians had to have had a founder. He thought that founder to be a man named Jesus. Someone who paid Roman taxes. Come now, surely the fact Jesus lived is a given.

Lots of our so called history doesn't have much more than a picture on a wall with scholary interpretation .

Exactly. If people wrote about other aspects of him, why not the simple things such as his preference for music or if he liked walks on the beach or whatever? He was obviously important to a particular group of people, right? After all they made up all kinds of magical tales about him.

I ask you. If He was only a made up myth how did the myth start.
How would I know? There's extremely little, if any, information about the guy outside of the Bible? Perhaps one time it appeared that he pulled an as or an aurius (Roman currency, 1st century) out of some kid's ear and the story spread that he was a wizard.

Perhaps. Perhaps he ignored it. Perhaps a lot of perhaps.

How could someone appear to actually have been real? A lot of people used to think Sherlock Holmes was a real person and a few actually claimed they met him. lmao. It's not like people haven't invented people before.

Actually, if you research it a bit, you'll find there were several people with the name Jesus at the time. Pick one. But don't start claiming that whichever you pick could walk on water, turn a couple fish into enough to feed hundreds, etc.

Lots of our so called history doesn't have much more than a picture on a wall with scholary interpretation .
I agree. Clothes say a lot about when a person was around, what class they were, location, etc. Same can be said of machinery and a lot of other things. That's the scholarly interpretation you are mentioning.

Gosh, I suppose that you mis-typed the following quote: You did mention that you weren't a typist afterall.

I have been remiss in recognizing in you some of this group of signs:

* Anger
* Arrogance
* Capable of acting witty and charming
* Good at flattery and manipulating other people's emotions
* Lack of remorse or empathy
* Rejection of guilt

Again, I apologize deeply and sincerely.

Acceptance of your apology is pending BTW... Generally I don't associate sincerity with megalomaniacs.

BTW, yes I did take some psychology in college. I've also got a neighbor that's a psychiatrist and I've met a few unfortunate fellow people like you.

Ohhh.. Betcha you've been a passenger on a plane - I guess you qualify as a pilot.

You've met some schizophrenics as well? I can see it's rubbed-off on you. Maybe there is some merit to your claims to having an ability in psychoanalysis based on a limited association.

Anyway, you want to chat about gays, their rights, and what is in the Bible about gays and their rights now?

Why bother? The sole thing you've focused on is berating all those that don't subscribe to your philosophy.

Still off-topic. Well, if anything, you are persistent.

Anyway, at least I have stuff to say on the topic:

Christians can't even agree amongst themselves what the Bible means concerning homosexuality.

Christian diversity:

Many regard Christianity as being more than a single religion; they view it as a group of religions that:
Follow the Bible, and
Share some historical theological beliefs and traditions,
But differ on many topics including deity, humanity and the rest of the universe. Christianity can be roughly divided among three main groups of denominations on the basis of their view of the Bible, their views towards women, homosexuals & bisexuals, other sexual minorities, other controversial social topics:
A conservative wing made up of hundreds of denominations of fundamentalists and other evangelicals;
A progressive wing;
A mainline group of denominations whose beliefs that are intermediate between these other two wings. This division is further complicated because so many denominations contain a blend of members from all three groups.
Evangelical and progressive Christians interpret the Bible in very different ways. This leads to two distinct and contradictory sets of beliefs within Christianity on just about every conceivable topic, from abortion to sex. Belief in equal rights for homosexuals and bisexuals is no exception.
Since the two groups approach the Bible with different assumptions about its nature, and look for different content, one can expect that their conclusions will be very different......
and I bet that each one swears the other is wrong about it. So, what is left for an objective person? Only that which makes sense; that homosexuals are people and if there are gods, let them decide what to do with homosexuals.

''So your sin is not enough to bring down fire from Heaven (and I certainly agree that being gay is pretty minor when compared to what is going on in Scripture, at any level.''

The Bible does not indicate that there are degrees of sin. My point being that while Christians believe homosexuality was the cause of problems and divine retribution at Sodom & Gomorrah, the Bible does NOT make that indication. The two principle sins were sex among angels & human females, the other being the ruthless exploitation of the poor.

You can't just pick and choose what parts of Gods laws you follow if you do then you really can't call yourselves christians.

You can't just pick and choose what parts of Gods laws you follow if you do then you really can't call yourselves christians.
There are no real Christians then, because all professed Christians pick and choose. And I do mean *all*, no exceptions.

There are over 600 Biblical prescriptions for correct behaviour, mostly in Leviticus and Deuternomy. There are a dozen passages in the Old and New Testaments supporting the contention that those rules are in force forever. Jesus himself is cited as saying so several times. Following many of them would currently land you in jail, as they involve stoning and killing people for relatively minor transgressions. Nobody pays any attention to most of them most of the time, they occur in debate only when someone invokes biblical authority to support an otherwise untenable position. You'll see the bit about not suffering a witch to live offered in support of suppressing the Harry Potter novels, for instance, and the bit about man lying with man being an abomination offered in support of suppressing gays.

There are also about a dozen passages in the New Testament indicating the laws no longer apply, and there's the first point where Christians pick and choose. The Bible is deeply ambiguous over whether the OT laws still apply or not, you have to make a choice yourself.

Bottom line: it's impossible to be sure from Scripture what god's laws actually are these days, and people who claim to know have cherry-picked citations that suit their prejudices and beliefs. In other words, they're making it up based on other values.
