From a Muslim female

Hello everyone. i'm new to this forum.

i am a female who was raised as a Muslim. Starting approximately 5-6 years ago, i developed a greater interest in my faith and decided to research it for myself, in order to ensure that i had a deeper knowledge of this religion (as opposed to blindly inheriting it from my parents/family). During this process, i have gradually begun to learn more about Islam (aspects that i was unaware of earlier), and have re-learned many inaccurate "facts" i was taught and/or picked up from diverse cultures. This is a life-long process and i am not a scholarly expert on Islam. Just someone who loves her faith very much.

Many of my non-Muslim friends have asked me a wide variety of questions regarding Islam. The common ones are: definition of jihad, status of women's rights in Islam, and why some Muslim females wear that "thing" on their heads. As a Canadian Muslim who has lived for several years in both eastern and western Canada (Nova Scotia and Alberta), and as a proud Muslim who loves this country, i thought i would introduce myself in this forum. i would like to invite questions from anyone out there interested in Islam (or afraid of it), or curious about it, in order to have a productive, constructive, respectful, and sincere debate (phew that's a lot of words). i am here to learn and to have my beliefs challenged with rational arguments. i am not here to insult anyone.

So if you guys - and gals - have any questions regarding Muslims and/or Islam, please don't be shy or afraid to ask me. As long as it's asked with sincerity and a desire to learn, then no question can be offensive.

Marhaba, Nadia!
I do have questions.

The bible often refers to the "tree of life".
Is there such mention in the Koran, and if so what is your interpretation (or that of others you've read) of it in the context of modern day?

Are you (personally) of an "exclusionist" mentality in that Islam is the only way to God and heaven, or do you think that we are all looking at the same thing from different and equally valid viewpoints?

Welcome to our little corner of cyberspace! I look forward to hearing about you and your faith. I've always had an interest in womens' rights and religions that appear to be contrary to them.

I'm sure you'll find some good discussions here. We have some pretty smart cookies ... as well as a few irreverent folk who never fail to make me laugh. Enjoy!

Welcome Nadia!

I look forward to reading some of your views.

My first and most pressing question is regarding the presence of a dog. Is it or is it not haraam to touch a dog? I have a gorgeous little pooch who captivates the children at the park, but none will come near, choosing instead to stand at safe distance and ask questions. Some say that it is haraam to touch a dog, others say it is merely necessary to clean any part of your or your clothes which come into contact with the saliva. Is it a matter of personal preference? Is there a way to assure children that my dog will not lick them, and that they can indeed pet her?

I'm sure I'll think of more questions in time.

Again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy your time here!

Ethnic minorities will see westerners as Nazi-Gestapo roundin em up in cow boy outfits riding a cow..... well in various ways too hehehe..... You might be FBI/CIA

Which would make sense if Muslims were the ethic minority here. But, they aren't. The area of the city I live in is largely Muslim. At most activities we go to be it the park, swim lessons, story time at the library, my kids are the only blonde haired blue eyed children there.

Well if the original poster wants questions then how do they feel about people walking around the streets and into stores wearing masks so all we can see is there eyes? What about drivers license photos? Should someone be allowed to wear a mask when their picture is taken for their drivers license. Should clubs that server alcohol be required to see under the mask to grant admittance.

Welcome to the forum, ma'am.
I am the* (wee) Christian and not really proud of anything about my faith.
Anyways,
Would you consider wearing of veil a mandatory, a must DO?
Do you think Allah* will be mad if you don't?

Real Christians show their faith by eating a live and conscious cow!!8O Ah... the origins of steak;-)

Watch out of the mad cow disease now:lol:...... usually meat should be cooked.... But hey faith ALWAYS override common sense:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:................ This is also why there are TWO world wars, guess the mad meat disease has gotten to them:p:p:p Christians believe that eating vegetables doesn't make them evil enough hehehe........ ...let's begin sausage festivals.

But you see, I oppose massive "manufacturing" of cows.
I mean its inhumane...
Imagine massive "manufacturing" of babies for food.

By the way, Middle East is oil addicted country.
And Middle East is land of Islam..
....please change you're position.
I beg you

It's ok to say you just don't understand the question you know.

From reading Nadia's post, it doesn't sound as though she wears a veil covering her face. The 'thing' she refers to is a round dot known as a bindi and is more of an addition to her beauty than having anything to do with her marital status or religion.
