Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Tuesday there’s no point in Canada reviewing its free-trade agreement with the United States and Mexico until after an election, which she hopes will happen soon.
Yep…so on that note…
“We need an election before any discussion of reopening,” Smith said in an interview.

Smith said the current instability with a changing Liberal leader and a minority government facing defeat, make the country a “less-than-credible” negotiating partner.
As U.S. President Donald Trump pushes for Canada to become the 51st state – claiming a US$200 billion trade deficit with Canada – Internal Trade Minister Anita Anand says the Liberal federal government is “open” to renegotiating the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) before 2026.
“We are very open to having that conversation as early as the Trump administration would like,” Anand said in an interview with CTV’s Power Play on Thursday. “As I said, the world’s most successful trading relationship is based on agreements over successive years, and the renegotiation of this free trade agreement between our two countries is one of the most important items on our agenda.”
“We can’t have one prime minister start negotiations, a second prime minister advance them, and a third prime minister try to finish the job, all within the next few months,” Smith said. “That’s silly.”
…but…that’s what the Libs are throwing out there. There are questions about whether Trump wants to push for an early renegotiation of CUSMA, which was signed in 2018 during Trump’s first term to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). CUSMA is set for review next year.

Last week, International Trade Minister Mary Ng told CTV’s Power Play that Canada will not be making concessions on supply management.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump once again pointed to his concerns over a trade deficit with Canada.

“Why would we pay US$200 billion a year in subsidies to Canada when they’re not a state? You do that for a state, but you don’t do that for somebody else’s country,” Trump said from the Oval Office. “So, I think Canada is going to be a very serious contender to be our 51st state.”

They don't conform with Canadian standards as it is, they'd never tolerate US/Can unified standards. Why include them with Canada? They will get pummeled trying to negotiate their privileges. Can't have 1 in 63 being special.
America with 335 million, & Canada with supposedly 41 million, & 25% of that being in Quebec…that’s more like 1 in 38.

With America throwing their weight around since Trump…globally they’re about 1 in 25. Just throwing that out there for perspective.

No more bilingual packaging.
Quebec is still roughly 25% of the population of Canada, under one provincial government. I think we’re stuck with bilingual packaging everywhere in Canada to keep the cost down to accommodate Quebec’s rules.

That or aftermarket bilingual stickers on everything sold in Quebec, like they do at our local Ukrainian co-op for most products that come with no English on it whatsoever. Sometimes it’s fun to roll a dice or just on pictures alone on the packaging though.😉

Cost of Official Bilingualism since its inception so far? About $1.7 Trillion dollars. Doing some quick math, that $1.7 trillion would have easily had us in the acceptable annual spending range for our NATO commitment from then until now.

And, let's not forget that 25% isn't all Quebecois. Some are Anglos and some others are French-Canadians.

We now have somebody else who wants the pillage Canada as a whole as opposed to what we’ve seen for the last hundred plus years since confederacy.

Trump has only been in office since January 20th & it’s March 11th…& look at what he’s accomplished so far…

Canadians (outside of SK & AB) appear to be considering a fourth Liberal or Liberal/NDP gov’t…ugh…

Great heading for the thread Ron. Pierre Berton would be proud.

You should consider running as a Green party candidate. :)

New Brunswick.

In 2021, 30.4% of New Brunswick's population, or 232,285 people, spoke French at least regularly at home. This includes people who spoke French most often at home, as well as those who spoke it equally with other languages.

Key facts

  • In 2021, 41.9% of New Brunswick's population could have a conversation in French.
    • 32.0% of New Brunswick's workers used French at least regularly at work.
    • 90% of people with French as a mother tongue spoke French regularly at home.
    • 86.8% of New Brunswick residents whose only first official language spoken was French were born in New Brunswick.
