sprinkler systems are generally designed for life safety and containment so people can evacuate. They are glorified plumbing good at keeping a small fire in check until the fire department gets there, but if it gets outside that initial phase they're just pissing in the wind.

wish we had a firefighter on the board to help us with these conundrums at times.
I know

I am seriously interested in how this works

it's going to be a massive undertaking to get it out

can hoses go that high?

by the time someone got up there, they be knackered

The building has not collapsed, this is definitive proof 9/11 was an inside job, or that indian slaves make better construction workers than fat americans

The fire is out!!

A fire erupted early Saturday morning at the Marina Torch in Dubai, the 79-floor skyscraper that is among the world's tallest residential buildings. According to a report in the English-language Gulf News, hundreds were evacuated from the building but high winds hindered firefighters' initial efforts to contain the blaze. It has since been extinguished, according to local witnesses.
Resident Kathryn Dickie told ABC News that the building's fire alarms started blaring about 2 a.m. She lives on the 13th foor.
"The guards were pretty frantic," she said.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries in the blaze, which was believed to have started around the 52nd floor. The building is part of the densely populated and highrise-filled marina district, popular among Dubai's ex-patriate population.
Those nearby have flooded social media with frightening and spectacular images .

At your service sir. Free at home service. Book your appointment now. All major credit cards accepted. Extra airmiles for cash.

Don't have any experience with buildings of that size but I would have to think the sprinkler system didn't work since a cigarette butt should do no more than a room and contents type fire that a sprinkler should have easily contained. Also have to wonder about the construction that it allowed a fire to spread like that.

9/11 recordings say they could 'knock it down with two lines'.
They have connections for firetrucks at ground level and then ports on each floor. The only other route up would be the stairs and flexible lines.

FFs still have to go up the stairs. Maybe their union doesn't permit 50 floor hill climbs. DUbi is still more or less a third world country so who knows what happened.

Just doing the math. A conventional fire truck could not pump water that high up.

It's nice to have a real firefighter on the board.
