See, THAT"S what bullets are for :) LOL

The problem is that the first nations and others are a little concerned that a conservative gov't might claim they had bouncy castles at one of their protests.

Well obviosuly but they're pretty sure that conservatives would shoot back if you started to gun them down. And they own a lot more bullets and guns than the Canadian military does right now.

The usual legal remedies should do nicely :) But - the police do need crowd control devices for when things are getting a little out of hand.

So trying to 'disarm' the police makes no sense, OTHER than it makes certain protest groups happy.
Like disarming them of the choke hold that was used on George Floyd, and many others? That’s one point of the triangle that they are ignoring….

Some further reading - it does kind of seem like they did take serious action to consider when it is appropriate to use that kind of hold and they don't just allow it anytime an officer feels like it.

When it comes to 'less lethal', it's just that. LESS lethal. IT's still dangerous as we've seen with choke holds, tazers etc. in fact just restraining someone can lead to fatalities in some cases. But bullets are fatal far more often. So i think there should be restrictions and it's wise to review it and consider options as tech and circumstances change, but denying effective less lethal tools is something that should only be done if there's equally effective safer options available i think. Otherwise all that's left is the lethal options.

From your link:

The letter directed the force to stop using three use-of-force methods: the "carotid control" neck hold, rubber bullets and tear gas.

The RCMP made headlines recently when it confirmed that it still allows officers to use the controversial neck hold despite those instructions and the fact that other police forces have stopped using it.

Whether or not it’s the same chokehold that killed George Floyd or not, in your link does it say they asked the RCMP to stop using it (?) or that they directed the RCMP to stop using it?

Ours or yours?
really good question. Honestly I didn’t think that far ahead. Let’s stay with ours in Canada but I’m curious about yours in the US.

No no, that was spam's link. That was the original link he posted. Mine was the cbc one and it specifically says:

Review launched after George Floyd's death

The carotid hold differs from the restraint used by Chauvin. But in the wake of Floyd's death, some law enforcement agencies in the U.S. announced bans on the use of the carotid neck restraint.

And it does say they've put additional restrictions on its use, but yes they are still allowing it in some special cases and the gov't has said they don't want them to. The govt has also clarified they don't want them using any 'less lethal' bullets, foam or rubber or bean bag, not just rubber, and no gas at all not just tear gas.

Its a commercial hold.
I don't know why but reading that all i can picture is some cop with a guy in a headlock screaming "THIS NECKHOLD BROUGHT TO YOU BY BLUE CROSS. IS YOUR HEALTH CARE IMPORANT TO YOU? THEN INSIST ON BLUE CROSS FOR ALL YOUR POST CHOKE HOLD MEDICAL NEEDS!!!!"

I think commercial holds could help fund more of our police forces.
