Exxon Mobil shutting down Baytown refining complex

Exxon Mobil is in the process of shutting down the nation's second-largest refining complex in Baytown as the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey continues to wreak havoc.

The Baytown campus, which also produces petrochemicals, can churn through up to 560,000 barrels of oil a day to produce fuel. The refinery is a major source of the Gulf Coast and nation's gasoline supplies. Baytown also serves as a major petrochemical hub that's undergoing a massive expansion.

"Safety is our first priority, and we have taken all the precautions to minimize impact to community and employees throughout the shutdown process," Exxon Mobil spokeswoman Suann Guthrie said.

Previously, refineries were shuttered temporarily in Corpus Christi by Valero Energy, Citgo Petroleum and Flint Hills Resources and Harvey prepared to make landfall. Now, some of the Houston refining corridor is beginning to close.

More than 25 percent of the nation's fuel supplies are produced just along the Texas Gulf Coast.

The title of the OP Flossy set was purposely misleading in terms of omitting that the refinery is temporarily shut down due to the hurricane.... He's just trolling as per usual.

All the same, here's a picture of the biggest oil refining complex on the planet (in India) chugging away in fine just to make Flossy feel a bit better

Is there any reason to think this is anything other than a temporary shutdown for safety during a natural disaster?

Or, in the words of the immortal Bard, "Much Ado About Nothing?"

Oddly enough, I noticed a Valero tanker coming in the harbour yesterday to fill up with gasoline or diesel, I don't recall any Valero ships coming here to fill up in the last few years.

All extreme weather events have been enhanced by climate change.
It was a friggin' category 4 hurricane. Certainly not the biggest. It's also the first hurricane to make landfall in the US in 12 years.
Storms stalling and hanging around in place, like hurricanes have been known to do from time to time, are nothing new and have been happening since long, LONG before the IR.

You know the funny thing? When the prediction was made after the big one before Katrina, that the US would be seeing more and more larger and powerful hurricanes, they have actually averaged fewer hurricanes than they normally get hit by during hurricane season.

You know what they say about computer models right? GIGO.

But if it makes you feel any better, do your part and cut a cheque to the UN Climate Fund. It doesn't have to be a big one since you're just a low man on the totem pole but I'm sure every dollar will help make climate change go away. Well, you sure seem to think so.

They have had predictions of the storm going in 7 different direction in the next 3 days.

Can't tell where a storm is going, but oh, trust us, we have the temperatures for the last 500
years all sorted out perfectly. And we can solve it with only more tax money.
