Yep, countries can only be sued if they consent. The U.S. has consented ad hoc a couple of times, and has the Federal Tort Claims Act, which Congress passed to allow people hurt by the government to be sued for a specific list of torts. In all honesty the first time I ever heard of this guy was when I saw the headline for $35 million Friday night I believe.
Interesting. I had to Google the term sovereign immunity. So Canada would’ve consented to being sued by this guy??
I understand that Whataboutery is a weak argument, but it is interesting in that there’s nothing anywhere online about this guy even trying to sue anybody except for Canada. Just an interesting piece of trivia I guess.![]()
Clearly he considered Canada a "soft target." He doesn't appear from what's been posted here to have a very good case. He seems to be claiming that the role of the CSIS in investigating him caused the Yanks to scoop him up, and the Mauritanians to allow it. The U.S. and Mauritanians appear to be the prime actors.
Maybe True Dope will pay him off, or maybe the Canadian courts will allow him to sue.
Good news is the right has something else to be OUTRAGED! about.
