Dutch vote bans ritual slaughter - FT.com

The Netherlands’ parliament voted Tuesday to ban non-anaesthetised slaughter of animals, in a move that will make the Islamic halal and Jewish kosher methods of slaughter illegal.
The ban has led to months of bitter debate in Dutch society over the clash between the country’s tradition of religious tolerance and its recent enthusiasm for animal welfare. While animal-rights activists hailed the Dutch law, observant Jews and Muslims denounced it as the latest in a wave of European anti-Islamic initiatives such as the French ban on public wearing of veils and the Swiss ban on minarets – a wave that in this case swept up Jewish practices as well.

I think the ban is completely stupid! The entire meat industry is inhumane yet these idiots (many racists and bigots) are targeting religious rituals that specifically take into consideration an animals well-being and kill them compassionately as possible..

Oh yes... particularly when the Latino Neighborhood leader stands up in a meeting and tells all the rich white kids that the Latinos can fight for themselves and to quit telling the press that they (the college kids) are being the voice for people who cannot speak for themselves and to stop being condesending to people in the neighborhood.

Because it seems to be a total ban on "non-anesthetized animal slaughter" it would apply to farms as well. So it would effect everyone who eats meat or works in the meat industry in the country. So they can get away with it without seeming to be anti-Islam.

I thought all factory farming requires the animals to be stunned so I don't think this applies at all to anything other than the Shecita and Dhabihah method of slaughtering.

Regulations in the Netherlands are likely different from here when it comes to animal slaughter-among other things.
