We were flying Canadair-built F-86 Sabres.

The cold war was certainly around, and we were conscious of it but when you're young you're invicible, right ? Some of the guys saw Russian Bear bombers while on patrol. I never did. I would do it over again in a minute, but they probably won't ask me.

Yeah, when your young you believe nothing can stop you. :D

Besides the Cold War part it sounds like a lot of fun.

Congrats! Here's a hope that the new government will give you guys a badly needed pay raise

Yeah hopefully the new government, whichever party that forms the government, gives money to upgrade the equipment of the CF and allow for more Canadians to become a soldier, to recruit more soldiers.

Also, a Corporal who was talking to me said a joke;

"For all the minorities in Canada, the Canadian Forces is one of the smallest." Anyone think that's funny?

We all did.

Are you still in the military? How has your experience been like? how far with your UN and ministerial ambition?

Of course, I love the military. But I am gaining useful skills from it so I can go on foreign missions, mostly to the U.N.

The warrant in the unit has been to Cyprus and Iraq and other places so hopefully he can give me some useful info, since he's been in for 37 years.
Enjoy the Ukraine.

Is anyone else in the Canadian military, especially the communications section of the military?
As in drone pilot? (or forward spotter like the last soldier of ours that died over there)

Perhaps there is a sad reason there have been no updates for that long. I mean who can resist this place?
For 'us' impaired posters can it show up as red text after a certain amount of time?

. . . or the exam is a damn long one, coulda happened, . . .

I would like to add that playing 'catch up' in conversations is nowhere as much fun as being 'on top'. Be that as it may it does show that ageing is nothing to wish for, still a few notches above soldier boy though in term of it being a long task. (and novel for each person).

you know me - love to see some of these old threads resurrected --- sad that so many of those folks who used to post in the old days no longer post here - I always wonder where they post nowadays :)

What a beautiful aircraft. I remember the Golden Hawks when I was VERY young. (I also remember a flight of Harvards called "Goldie Locks")
