The thing that annoys me about this is when did elite become an insult? Why would't you want your political representatives to be elite? They should be the smartest, best people you can find.
When average Joe becomes the leader, you get George W Bush and look how great that one has worked out.
Exactly. My father used to comment that Canadians seem to have a desire to aim for the average, to never try to be better than anyone else, to try to accomplish the Lowest Common Denominator. (He was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, so I guess he knew whereof he spoke). It's been acceptable to make fun of the 'smart kids' in class, even when you can't make fun the ugly or fat or smelly kids.
Me, I want us, as a country, to aim high, to celebrate our best and brightest. Don't be afraid of the 'smart kids' in school. We should hope, and expect, that our government is made up of people who are the best at what they do, and hope to give their all to improve us as a society.I'm tired of the race to the bottom. I'm disgusted by our overwhelming desire to be average. Aim high. Dream big. Get your ass in gear. Work hard.
Stop settling for mediocrity. We need to push for the top, not be scared of it.And that's why I hate the term 'elitist'. It's a word used by people who are scared of anyone who accomplishes more, or has more talent, than they do. It's the ultimate in socialistic put downs. Nobody should ever do more than anyone else. That just leads to more people doing nothing at all.
